Always a good meal at a good price. Plenty of parking. It does get very busy but we have never had to reserve a table.

We arrived thinking that we would have a great meal by ordering starters, main and dessert. With the prices of everything being good. The food was awful. At start I ordered chicken wings which was good. Fast and hot. Thinking that they would start preparing the main course after we finished. A waitress came over saying "I'm guessing your finished with your starters" and she said that she will bring out our mains. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. The people next to us arrived after we sat down and got there food as soon as. I was expecting when the waitress who delivered their food to their table to tell us that our food will take longer than usual. But she just walked past us saying nothing. When the food eventually arrived. I ordered a platter and asked my steak medium rare. It came absolutely chewy and tasted like it was put into a microwave. Absolutely disgusted. I spat out most of my food as most of it wasn't cooked correctly. And we decided not to get dessert as yet again we would be waiting more than a hour for deserts. The man who directed us to our table when we arrived was so cheerful and happy, which was the only good thing to come to this place. Apart from that, waited over an hour for our food. Never got told that our food will take longer than usual and just would highly recommend not to come here for a evening meal. They need to up their game with the service and food otherwise, this place will keep having bad reviews.

Very disappointing. We’ve been visiting Burton House for 25 years and have always been happy with food and service but last night was terrible. The food (sharing platter, scampi, haddock)was very over cooked and very small portions for the mains. The atmosphere was not what it was and it’s sad to see its demise

What happened to this restaurant it was amazing a year ago the steak was perfect and tasty. Last May 2024 then December the food sucks, today we give it ago maybe something's change. All the fried are over cooked and smells. I can smell an old cooking oil. The lasagna taste awful. Obviously the chef a year ago was changed, if not something happened to this guy. Or you guys just promoted the kitchen assistant to be the head chef? Today is the last day, we will never come back here again for food. The service are ok seems the staff are well trained, ambiance still cozy.
Please change your chef, and if so do some announcement, for us to come back here again.

Went for a birthday meal a party of ten people, waited for over an hour and the place was half empty. When the food arrived most of it couldn't be eaten , some how they even burnt the onion rings, steak was still raw when asked for medium or well done, the spicy chicken burger was disgusting no spice to it all, our guests had travelled from grimsby and they where disgusted by what we where served. We will not be returning BURTON HOUSE has gone downhill big style and with what we spent was not value for money

We have visited the Burton on several occasions over the last twenty years. We intended to dine here on 10th December but couldn't due to a problem affecting food supplies to Whitbread restaurants ie. an ammonia leak at the GXO warehouse that stores them. We tried again today, over three weeks later, to discover this problem hadn't been resolved and the venue was having to try to source items locally to supplement the limited number that Whitbread had obtained and sent through As such, there was quite a long list of things on the menu that were not available.
Despite this, the staff did a really good job in difficult circumstances not of their making. In the absence of our first choices, we ordered rump steak and chicken tikka masala, both of which were high quality and tasty. Bar and table service were polite and quick. The atmosphere score reflects the tiredness of decor and furniture rather than being a reflection on the interaction with clients.
In short, we would happily return here again but a company of Whitbread' s size and supposed standing ought to be capable of fully restoring their own menu by now, rather than expecting hard working staff and bemused customers to put up with it.

Pre-ordered Boxing Day menu and paid in advance.
1) Arrived on time and had to wait 45mins for starters to arrive which for 5 people 3 arrived and 2 were 5mins later. It was only soup?
2) Another 45mins wait for mains, corn on cob was cold so sent back was never to be seen again. Food wasn’t piping hot.
3) Another 45mins wait for dessert.
Had to keep pestering the waiter as no one came over not even to clear plates.
All in all terrible experience we had been forgotten as had to keep going up and reminding. If you can’t handle busy periods then don’t offer the service. Over 2 hours for a basic pre-ordered menu is unacceptable.
I did say we need to renegotiate the price and £30 was returned to me but even then not even an apology.
Won’t even be eating mains here again.
Only reason for the 2 stars is the breakfast buffet is usually good.

Absolutely dire experience at Burton House the food although limited was nowhere near up to their usual standard. The staff seemed to be fed up and as for Christmas you'd never believe it was Christmas in a couple of days. For what it cost us certainly not worth it and won't be going back for a while

Booked for the festive menu. There was no Festive menu but didn't know this until we arrived. Was given a very limited menu. Ordered starters: garlic mushrooms, which were fine, and 2 lots of cheesy garlic bread which looked like it had been warmed up in the microwave as it was very soft & limp. Mains: big stack burger & chips...what a joke. Was the most cheapest of burgers going in a very cheap oversized bun,not the original brioche bun, a small teaspoon amount of coleslaw & a small handful of chips. Spicy chicken burger,in a cheap white bun again with a small amount of chips. Scampi & chips with garden peas. Scampi was fine but only had about a dozen chips & no sign of any peas. Dessert: 1 Cadbury sundae which was only half full with ice cream, topped up the rest of the way with squirty cream. Banoffi cheesecake with half the biscuit base missing. Couldn't have a large red wine that was wanted as there wasn't enough. The whole experience cost just under £75!!! Needless to say we will most definitely not be returning to the Burton House. Staff was fine, especially one inparticular who explained the whole place was going to pot. We came here for a family festive meal like we do every year and yet we couldn't have that & got over charged for a load of rubbish.

Been here a few times now over the past 5 years as the food is generally pretty decent for what you pay for, and the service staff are all friendly and helpful. The current issue is with the menu. I understand Whitbread are supposed to be suffering financially, but whatever 'supply chain' issues they are having is causing an execptionally limited menu at the restaurant, including no Xmas menu. I settled for the smothered platter, which was basic but very well cooked with a perfect (but small) steak. The main issue lies with the waiting times. I'm not sure if it's down to poor management or just lack of staff, but over an hour's wait seems pretty poor considering it wasn't busy.
I feel bad for the staff as the restaurant could well be one that is destined for closure, but with the way things are I'd struggle to want to visit again.
