Look up 'eclectic ' and there should be a photo of the Wade collection at Snowshill

This really is a different place to visit lots of old quirky stuff to see all collected by the owner before National Trust took ownership

This delightful property of the national trust is the best experiences of the trust at its best. This place is just full of the world best items of a bygone era . Each and every item has a true stroy waiting to be told by very experienced guides. Many thanks to all who made this a fantastic and unforgettable experience.

One of the most extraordinary places I’ve ever visited. I’d as one of the best National Trust properties I’ve seen. I’ve only posted one photo as I don’t want spoilers - go and be amazed by the collections

Well I've seen numerous NT properties but the interior of Snowshill Manor is absolutely insane! This 16th manor house has been crammed full of over 22,000 historical treasures and quirky objects amassed by Charles Wade, an architect, artist, craftsman, collector, poet and heir to a family fortune, who purchased the property in 1919. Wade was an eccentric man and used the manor house solely to display his huge 'collection' whilst living in a small cottage in the grounds. It is quite incredible!

Fantastic place, we went after leaving Hidcote after 20 minutes due to there being nothing to see. From the lady in the car park pointing out somebody leaving, through the reception people and the really lovely and informative volunteers in each room and the ladies in the cafe who brought out free sandwiches towards the end of the day, (we HAD paid for our scones and hot chocolates...lol) I cannot fault it. And the Mr Wade's collection is just brilliant.

Bonkers collection. Well organised. Entry by timed slots, which sometimes sell out.

This is a charming bucolic place with a manor masquerading as a cabinet of curiosities, just like the many it houses, with a little model village, waterlily pond, clock, well and apple orchard. The cafe serves decent hearty jacket potatoes, soups, pasties and sausage rolls. You can easily spend 2 to 3 hours there and then walk around Snowshill itself.

Well, it's certainly got a lot to see!!
I personally liked the grounds and found the old photos interesting. How Mr. Wade had brought a derelict building and transformed it along with the garden after the First World War.
It's literally brimming with stuff, I found it a bit claustrophobic.
He was a horder of anything and everything. Some items are beautiful, such as the Chinese cabinets filled with tiny items. I loved the wording on the garden plaque.
The fact that he and his wife lived in the cottage while he filled the manor with his collection is quite bizarre in itself. The cottage was adorable and full of character.
The fact that almost everything was brought in England is also incredible, but as the volunteers said during that period, a lot of country estates had to sell up because of no heir after the war.
As with all National Trust properties, it's an honour to be able to visit and enjoy what others have left for us to see ❤️
