I’ve stayed at the Duke Hotel for the last week with work and a bit of travelling. I could not recommend a place anymore. The decor feels so refined and stunning, the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, the food is outstanding and makes you want more. If you’re looking for a pub for dinner or even a Sunday roast, look no further because you’ve found the place!

Just been to the Thursday Steak night wow the presentation and the quality is fantastic and the service and attention to detail is fabulous and the Brandon and the front of house staff are so attentive and friendly and the chef really knows how to cook and serve fantastic delicious mouth watering food can't recommend highly enough 5 ⭐

This is a review for the restaurant only - we weren’t staying in the hotel. We were warmly welcomed, including our dog. We had booked, and a large table was assigned to fit five people and a greyhound. The menu is an unusual mix of European and Asian dishes and flavours - and everything worked. Each dish was beautifully served: each tasted wonderful. Even the drinks menu included some unusual drinks - the matcha latte was an excellent choice. Service was good. A lovely place - highly recommended

We had a superb Christmas Dinner today with my Daughter and Son in law, the Duke provided a top quality selection of choices and catered fully for my daughter who requires gluten free choices as she’s a Celiac all courses catered for, exemplary service from all the staff, these owners have transformed this pub into a want to dine experience, we’ve had Sunday lunch here too, all value for money, thank you 👏

Used the caravan club CL site. In need of a bit of tlc but the location, pub and Duchess coffee shop/farm shop makes up for it in spades. And Brandon was fabulous. Couldn’t be more helpful. Will definitely be back.

Not quite as expected. Expensive for drinks. Lamb dish was nearly 30.00 pounds! It wàs tasty. But would hope so for that amount. Service was okay, but not what you expect for those prices.

Just had the most wonderful roast dinner 🫶 our first time visiting you for hubsters birthday, we were recommended to you and my goodness, you surpassed all expectations! This pub wasn't what I expected. It's much more classy than traditional. Great place for a date or family meal. Staff is very accommodating. I had the Turkey roast dinner, which was wrapped in bacon and stuffed with a moist Italian stuffing. Perfect amount, and they supplied extra gravy on the table without asking, which was nice. The car park was a pain, but more because it was busy, which again can only show you it's a great place to come.

My two sisters & myself had a festive afternoon tea in the duchess lounge to celebrate a birthday, which I must add was wonderful. We then made our way across the car park to have a couple of drinks in the Duke. As soon as we walked through the door, we were welcomed by Brandon, who served us with our drinks. The bar area is tastefully decorated, creating a warm ambience. We enjoyed our visit, we were made to feel welcome & will definitely visit again. The Duke is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Sadly I never took any pictures on this occasion, but will update this post soon.

The Duke is our "local" so very handy for a birthday lunch today. Excellent food, Matteo. Looked after so well by Brandon supported by Will. Thank you all for making this a birthday to remember. We will be back and look forward to meeting Cairo in due course. Ann and Adrian

Staying at Matteo and Brandon’s newly revamped Victorian gastropub in Hilmarton was an absolute pleasure and a genuine treat for all the senses. From the moment we arrived, us troopers could see the care and vision they’ve poured into the place —it’s not only a cosy haven but an inviting fusion of their Sicilian and South African roots with the best of European and Asian traditions. The pub has that quintessential Victorian charm but feels refreshingly modern and welcoming, reflecting their own blend of heritage and love for hospitality. Dinner was incredible and honoured British classics. Everything we tasted was crafted to perfection, with flavours that took us on a journey yet felt deeply comforting and familiar. Breakfast was the perfect wake-up, and the Sunday roast was, hands down, one of the best we’ve ever had. Beyond the food, their attention to detail in service was impeccable. Matteo and Brandon, knowing them as we do, clearly put heart and soul into everything. They’ve really thought through every detail, from the food to the decor to the relaxed but polished ambiance. What a fantastic place to visit in such a wonderfully quaint location. The service is exquisite, faultless I’d say. The food was incredible. We stayed one night here and had 3 meals. Evening Breakfast and a Sunday dinner. Each was delicious. The lamb shoulder was tender, moist and the fat was rendered perfectly and with a crisp to it! The breakfast in the morning was hearty and locally sourced. The Sunday lunch was amazing! The rump of beef was perfectly cooked and tasted perfect. The room we stayed in was perfectly furnished. Comfortable beds and plenty of utilities; Nespresso machine, large TV and the usual amenities. Decorated with care and style. Would love to come again on my next visit to this area.

Had the loveliest lazy Sunday lunch. The flavour was fire with the lamb falling off the bone. Lots of attention to detail and very friendly waitering staff.

What a truly perfect time we spent at this beautiful hotel/ pub. From drinks in the sun soaked garden to a fabulous celebration dinner where every dish was cooked to perfection. Our host was so attentive with nothing too much trouble. If you are looking for a restful stay in a sumptuous place, this is it.

Popped in for Sunday lunch - a perfect half way stop; South Wales - London / vice versa. Yes - the 25 minute detour is well worth it. We started with some bread to share. Warm bread with sun-dried tomato and basil butter. Delicious. Followed by roast beef which was beautifully tender. And the roast lamb shoulder… falling off the bone… Just perfection. The trimmings were excellent too. Carrots, parsnips, greens, onion gratin, roasties. Each element perfectly cooked and seasoned. I wish we’d had space for dessert… Next time… we’ll be back! Can’t recommend highly enough… an absolute must try. C & C x

A perfect lunch in a fabulous setting. Everything was perfectly cooked and nicely washed down by a very good house red and a pint of Broadtown brewery local beer. 5 of us had 3 different meats, beef, lamb and the chicken. Everyone said that their choice was the best! It was lovely to see somewhere busy and thriving and we certainly didn’t feel rushed. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Lucky to have somewhere like this on our doorstep and the bus stop outside the front door is an added bonus.

My daughter & I stayed at The Duke Hotel for 2 nights. We had the most enjoyable stay. From the immaculate beautiful room to the most delicious meals, fantastic hospitality & attention to detail. Would definitely recommend & return to this quaint little gem.

Outstanding hotel in every way. I understand that this has been somewhat recently refurbished and they have done an outstanding job with a very high attention to detail. Superbly presented rooms, great towels, excellent toiletries, good shower, extremely comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. First impressions from checkin were superb, excellent welcome and show to our rooms with all the information we needed. We only stayed one night, but had a superb dinner with excellent drinks and incredibly professional, friendly and attentive staff. Slept extremely well in the very comfortable bed and was greeted with an excellent breakfast and superbly made coffee. interior has been refurbished very well and it now is a lovely place to stay. Would highly, highly recommend it and will absolutely stay there again without hesitation.

Came for dinner, the food was absolutely fantastic. Massive fan of how they incorporated both Japanese and European cuisine in such an elegant way ! Would highly recommend, stand out dishes were the mochi, sashimi, miso butternut squash.
