Bellissima scalinata all’ingresso con cupola. All’interno al piano inferiore c’è una sezione egizia ben fornita di reperti. Si trovano anche opere d’arte di Picasso,Renoir,Cezanne,Monet e Canaletto.

Lovely experience. Lots of nice artefacts from Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt amongst others. The old main entrance is an impressive sight. Went as part of a school group and the kids loved it almost as much as me!

A Must-Visit in Cambridge – The Fitzwilliam Museum If you’re in Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Museum is an absolute must-visit! This stunning museum, housed in a grand neoclassical building, offers an incredible collection of art and history—and it’s completely free. The Egyptian section is a real highlight, featuring beautifully decorated sarcophagi, ancient jewelry, and even a real mummy! It’s a fascinating glimpse into life (and death) thousands of years ago. Art lovers will be in heaven with the Impressionist gallery, where you can admire masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, and Degas. The museum also boasts an impressive collection of Renaissance paintings, intricate ceramics, and rare manuscripts. The Fitzwilliam is open Tuesday to Saturday (10:00 AM - 5:00 PM) and Sunday (12:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (closed Mondays). With so much to see and no entrance fee, it’s easily one of the best cultural experiences in Cambridge. Don’t miss it! 5/5.

Fabulous time wandering around the exhibits, which are displayed beautifully. The art galleries are wonderful, and the artworks are cleverly displayed. This museum is the perfect size. It's not too big and not too small. The building inside is beautiful. I will be back!

The Fitzwilliam Museum is truly a treasure trove of art, history, and culture nestled in the heart of Cambridge. From the moment you approach the grand Neoclassical building, you can feel a sense of awe and anticipation for what lies within. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the serene and welcoming atmosphere, even on a weekend. Unlike many popular museums, it wasn’t overcrowded, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. This meant I could take my time exploring the exhibits without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The museum’s collection is incredibly diverse, spanning centuries and cultures. One of the highlights for me was the remarkable array of paintings, including works by renowned artists such as Monet, Van Dyck, and Titian. Each piece is displayed thoughtfully, allowing you to fully appreciate the intricate details and artistry. For those interested in ancient history, the Egyptian artifacts are a must-see. The beautifully preserved sarcophagi, statues, and everyday objects provide a fascinating glimpse into life thousands of years ago. There’s also an impressive collection of Roman and Greek antiquities, including exquisite pottery and intricate jewelry. Another standout area is the medieval and Renaissance galleries, showcasing stunning illuminated manuscripts, sculptures, and armor. The craftsmanship and detail in these pieces are breathtaking and transport you to another time. The museum also houses an extensive collection of Asian art, including delicate Chinese ceramics, Japanese prints, and intricate textiles. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore art and history from a non-Western perspective. One of the aspects I appreciated most was the calm and quiet environment. Despite visiting on a weekend, it never felt too busy. The museum seems to attract visitors who genuinely appreciate art and history, creating a relaxed and respectful ambiance. The Fitzwilliam Museum is free to enter, although donations are encouraged and well-deserved given the incredible quality of the collections. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to answer questions or provide insights into the exhibits. In addition to the permanent collections, the museum often features special exhibitions, so there’s always something new to discover. The café is also worth a visit, offering a pleasant spot to recharge with a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Overall, The Fitzwilliam Museum is a must-visit for anyone in Cambridge, whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful and enriching way to spend a few hours. Its stunning collections, tranquil atmosphere, and accessibility make it one of the city’s true gems.

Stunning must visit place. There really is so much to see so allow time and have a cup of tea to break up the viewing. Weapons, armour, exquisite pottery, paintings by flemish painters eg Brugul and van Steen, Albert Cuyp, van Hals plus many others. There is a great gift shop and tea house. The staff are friendly and helpful, and you can put small backpack sized and coats in a free locker.
