This hotel was lovely for the wedding and one night......however, im quite put off by the fact the Groom, got up 5 minutes after breakfast and refused to give him a hot breakfast - after paying thousands for a wedding I would expect better - don't get me wrong if a normal guest misses breakfast I can understand - but the groom on New Year's Day - shocking

We just had our wedding reception here and had an amazing time. The day went exactly as planned and the staff were amazing to bring it all together. The food was exceptional and enjoyed by all. Those with dietary requirements were well catered for as were the children. The grounds and venue are amazing and idyllic which produced the most amazing photos. The honeymoon suite is large, well equipped and very comfortable despite being somewhat more expensive than the other rooms (worth the additional fee). The events team were great at keeping in touch and meeting our needs for our wedding. There was just two niggles but they weren’t a show stoppers. We had hoped for the traditional outdoor Christmas tree but this wasn’t to be and was made up for by having many indoor trees. There was only the bar food menu offered the night before, that said the food was delicious then too (be sure to pre-book if you don’t want a long wait for larger groups). Be aware of time keeping for meals, you must be prompt otherwise you risk not getting fed without an additional fee. Meal timings are clearly displayed. It is a great spot for a wedding. I recommend this place for others considering a wedding of this type.

I recently stayed at Guyers House on 26th October 2024, and my experience was nothing short of appalling. After checking out, I was shocked to discover that the hotel had withdrawn £11 from my account without my consent. Their reason? They accused me of stealing a "Do Not Disturb" sign from the room I stayed in. First and foremost, there was no such sign in the room during my stay. Despite my clear denial and explanation, the hotel still chose to charge me without providing any evidence to support their baseless claim. Their accusations are not only offensive but also reflect extremely poor customer service and unethical management practices. It’s absurd to think I would have any interest in taking a hotel sign, and the entire situation has left me frustrated and insulted. Instead of treating their guests with respect, this hotel resorts to blaming and penalizing them for their own shortcomings. If this is how they treat paying customers, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone. Avoid at all costs—there are far better options out there where you’ll be treated with the respect and professionalism you deserve.

Let me start with the good stuff. What a STUNNING location this is. The whole area is fantastic and well worth visiting. That's where my enthusiasm for Guyers hotel ends though. The rooms are dates and dirty (cob webs, mould, etc.) and the heating was temperamental. After staying here, I looked at the reviews (since this was booked for us by a friend) and saw that many people felt the same way. However, instead of owning up to the fact that this is the case, the owner seems to have a smart retort to all of these queries (whatever happened to customer care?). The food and service was a joke to be honest. I cannot have eggs and asked for the avocado on bread (leaving the eggs off)....that's exactly what I got. I got a soggy piece of bread with half an avocado in the middle. I mean...how? There was NO pride in the food. When complaining about this to the owner, he said: "Well that's what she asked for". The next morning I did get two muffins with a lot of smashed avocado but the owner must have mentioned this about 5 times at breakfast in a bit of condescending way ("Oh, there's more avocado, we'll bring you your avocado soon, etc."). Just laying it on really thick. The staff was inexperienced. They really tried but some basic skills were just not there. All in all, I recommend you don't stay here and that the owner looks up the term "hospitality" and stops going into discussion with his guests... What. A. JOKE. PS: dear owner, please take responsibility for the fact that this establishment is not run properly. If so many people have the same terrible experience, maybe its not them...it's you.

I had a booking, and I just added my wife, and they charged me a hefty £20 extra money per day, which was too much. When I checked on the website for the prices, it showed nothing extra for 2 in a room. After showing the same in the reception, they had no explanation and just blatantly asked to pay for no valid reason.

Stayed here for one night this past weekend with my girlfriend. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist, offered dinner and told about the service times for breakfast the next morning. We weren’t in need of dinner and checked in after a long drive, and it was getting fairly late. So we just went to our room. We loved everything about the room. Comfy bed, great water pressure for shower and bath. TV that is easy to connect to your own Netflix. The choices of hot drinks were great (lovely coffee and hot chocolate) We slept really well and also enjoyed the magnificent grounds the next morning. This is a historical, old hotel, but it is friendly comfortable and highly recommended. Our favourite hotel by a mile. Lovely staff both in the evening and morning. We would love to return soon. Stayed for a work trip and I thought the waitress had a vendetta against the guests. Really hard to bite my tongue towards the staff here (especially the bitter older lady who works the restaurant). So so rude I didn’t even stay for the breakfast I had already paid for. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Rooms were filthy. Not just last guest dirt, but accumulation of filth. Spiderwebs everywhere and god knows what in the bathroom. See photos. Worse though was that with a dog barking and howling a couple of rooms down, these concerns were not addressed when I spoke to reception. Other than they told the owners. To be fair the evening lady was as nice as she could be. But the barking continued into the morning, starting again at 0530. I rang reception at 0600- they got hold of the owner who went back to the room and gave the dog a squeaky toy! I asked for a 50% refund on my room, having only been able to sleep for 50% of the time I'd have liked, I'd have thought this was fair. No manager was available to authorise this. was offered a call back today - it hasn't happened. Finally, the place was freezing cold - put the heating on! Central heating means you can't control the temperature of your own room. I wish I'd read the other reviews before booking this.

I was very disappointed by this hotel, which markets itself as a 4-star property. The service is equal or worse than a 2-star bed & breakfast. There was no staff at reception, no hot water, stuffy old rooms, grumpy waitress (I booked Half Board), bland food. On top of that, they charged my credit card days after my check-out without warning. When enquiring, they said I had taken a robe from the room, which was not the case. They still haven't refunded the amount taken and are not answering my messages. I have read in other comments that they tend to do that.

Absolutely had the best time at Guyers house hotel . Enjoyed a wonderful wedding . Staff were so attentive and pleasant couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent the grounds well kept and extensive. We were lucky to see a red kite and a doe with her fawn. Lovely memories.

I highly recommend anyone considering this hotel to read the 1-star reviews first. A consistent theme emerges: incompetent and rude staff, dusty and mould-infested rooms, and poor-quality food. The number of 1-star reviews nearly matches that of the 4-star ratings, which speaks volumes about the experience guests are having. I also urge you to read the management’s responses to online reviews, as they reveal the attitude and tone you're likely to experience if you're unfortunate enough to stay here. Furthermore, a Google rating of 4 (and probably soon to be 3), tells you what you need to know. My local McDonalds has 4.1. The hotel grounds and building exterior are wonderful, but it's clear that the current owners and management don’t show the same care and respect for the interior as the original owners did. I have a gluten allergy, not just an intolerance. I informed the staff on three occasions, and they did absolutely nothing to assist me. Eventually, I had to offer to speak to the kitchen myself, and even then, they couldn’t tell me which dishes contained gluten. I also had an early 6 a.m. check-out and asked for some food. After asking multiple times, all they could offer me was an apple. However, I didn’t even receive that! Although, I did get complimentary pubic hairs in the room. For £170, I highly recommend staying elsewhere. One final story about the staff: my friend, who got married at the venue, was understandably busy on the day of the wedding. He asked the staff for a few extra portions of bacon and sausages. They refused and told him he was only allowed one piece of bacon. Despite all this, I had a fantastic day with my friends celebrating my mate’s wedding

This is a beautiful idilic hotel in charming surroundings, unfortunately the staff let this hotel down. On arrival we was greeted unenthusiastically, not informed about dining or breakfast, no direction to the room so walked around the grounds. In the morning we found the breakfast room, again asking the receptionist, there was no pleasantries of good morning, just it’s in there, no one came over at breakfast, felt very unwelcome in this hotel, and uncomfortable. On check out the receptionist didn’t even look up just took my key and said all down, never asked my stay. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful hotel but the staff ruined my stay which would put me off returning

I stay at this hotel nearly every week for work but every other week the female receptionist tries charging me for breakfast even though my company tell the hotel on the booking to charge it back to them. She also insisted she charges my personal credit card with £50 incase of damages., telling me it's policy. (Only when she's on reception) When I stay the week she's not working I have none of the above issues, I can find nothing on the booking site saying about these charges. What a jobsworth 🤦‍♂️ she shouldn't be front of house. The rest of the staff are great. Rooms are in need of TLC considering the company pays £135 a night plus breakfast.

The grounds and building are beautiful but the rooms are fairly tired. Ours was clean but there were also some cobwebs and spiders, a broken tap and lamp, plus no sound proofing so you could easily hear the other rooms and corridor. It was fine for a 1 night stay.

The hotel and grounds are stunning, the room however is significantly underwhelming. No air conditioning, a room the size of a shoe box and a mattress that wasn't flat..... For £130 for the night I expected more... Glad it was only one night or I would have cancelled and gone to a chain hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE EVER!!! The grounds to this hotel are beautiful, so my partner and I had high hopes. Sadly that’s the about the last good thing I have to say about this hotel. On arrival there was nobody on the reception desk, no bell to ring, no number to call and no sign to say ‘popped out back in 5 minutes’ (or words to that effect) So I had to wander around to find a member of staff. Anyway check in completed (eventually) so off we go to our room. First impressions, the room is very dated and a bit basic, but ok I can live with that. We went out for the evening and upon returning the room had a substantial amount of flying ants in it. I flattened quite a few but still they came, climbing up the headboard, and over the bedside tables. This grossed out my girlfriend and I, so we went to reception and informed them we’d be checking out. Things only got worse from here. I sent an email to the management to explain the situation and request a refund. After 4 days, 2 emails, and 3 phone calls the manager finally deemed to reply. In essence the manager stated ‘what do I expect it’s the countryside’, complained the window was open (which I opened when we returned NOT before) but frankly that seems irrelevant, and then claimed there was no evidence of the insects. The worst part in all this is the dismissive attitude of the manager. Zero empathy or even an apology for the state of the room, just blaming me for opening a window and daring to stay in a hotel in the countryside. I’ve stayed in hotels in 4 continents, and about 30 countries at every price point imaginable. This is one of the worst, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, and the manager needs to go back to hospitality school. Shocking! I’ve now disputed the hotel charge with my credit card company so I’ll get my money back with or without her appalling customer service!!

We stayed at Guyers house for one evening. The hotel is absolutely beautiful! The gardens are immaculate, ample parking, and lovely room. As other reviews have said, the rooms are slightly dated but, in my opinion, in the BEST way. The décore is perfect for the building with a homey country manor feel. The hotel was slow paced and relaxing with polite and helpful staff who really looked after us. The breakfast was excellent, my eggs royale was cooked to perfection! It would have been nice to have a few more options on the continental breakfast spread but also understand that it’s a smaller hotel where waste could be an issue. Thank you for a beautiful stay, your staff and gardeners are an absolute credit to the hotel.

Slightly dirty rooms in a beautiful location with terrible service. Was charged £20 for an extra breakfast that wasn't included in the booking (booking mistake on their end) which ended up being a slice of toast without butter, as they had no butter even. The avocado on toast was appalling. I would not eat here. Nice place to wake up at though. Stay clear if possible.

Beautiful country hotel. Feels family run and not at all corporate. Stay here for a slow, relaxing stay. Don't expect quick service or a rush! Take time to walk the immaculately maintained and extensive gardens, or relax in the comfortable lounge. Whilst it feels like a national trust house, it still has mod cons like free fast wifi and 22kw electric car chargers. I do hope this isn't refurbished and made into a soleless expensive 'boutique hotel'!

Great location, rooms need some updating and more staff required, they took too long to bring breakfast to some. Food was good quality and presented well. I would have given a five star review if not for the late service due to staff shortages and the room needs updating.

Driving towards the Guyers Hotel in Chippenham it looked amazing. The Gardens were well kept & beautiful. This is where it ended. Our room no 20 was awful. Dust & mould, splashes of whatever up the walls. Cobwebs complete with friendly spiders. Headboard broken. Bathroom grubby. Dinner was also a joke no ambience, just two waitresses running around. Food was average. Breakfast was even worse. We couldn't be bothered to wait for coffee it was obvious they could not cope. The place is run by young people who appear to have no guidance whatsoever. The icing on the cake was when I came to settle the bill for dinner they tried to charge me for the whole experience. I booked this through Pets Pyjamas they recommend 'good' pet friendly hotels. I suggest they take a look at what they are recommending as it's doing them no favours. Would never go back. Shame as has lots of potential to be such a beautiful place

Lovely hotel in a great location, all completely ruined by the incompetent staff! There wasn't enough breakfast, about 6 people waiting for bacon so the chef cooks two rashes. Front desk was in the kitchen grabbing her toast but when we told her she was oblivious. I don't like the thought of people losing their jobs but the owners of the hotel should sack the lot, the poor waitresses were taking all the flack from the guests while management sat back and did nothing.

this hotel was once the perfect getaway for us but sadly has gone right down hill with poor service and food to match. the woman that runs the place [if thats what you call it] is not interested in giving good service and gets annoyed should you bring up any issues. the carpets and chairs in the eating area are dirty and stained. mold and dust in various areas of bedrooms. 4 star hotel? i think not, its a 1 star on a good day. our friends and us have stayed a few times this year but will not be going anymore as this dire situation is unacceptable especially at their high prices. i challenge anybody that leaves a good review of this dreadful place and have noticed some of these good reviews are left by people that have no real names.? and if they over charge you for something, then consider it gone as they will come up with all sorts of lies to keep it. i cannot see this farce going on for much longer and it must be on its way out. dreadful place, stay away and find somewhere better and cheaper.

Beautiful house, lovely grounds, but lazy and borderline rude staff. The room was average too. I’ve just spent two nights and won’t be going back. Just this morning, the server at breakfast was very abrupt from the off (and I was the second person in). It was almost as I was putting him out by being there. After being absent from table service for some time, I waited for him outside the kitchen. When I tried to get his attention, he just said ‘yeah’ as he continued to walk past. I requested for some poached eggs after being informed breakfast would be buffet and not table service. He told me a straight ‘no’ because the chef hadn’t put any water on and there was a buffet. Appalling response in my opinion and not acceptable. There were other guests in earshot who were equally unimpressed. Never again.
