A fabulous historic gem. Half occupied by students, who have catered halls of residence in the castle, and half museum. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Really enjoyed the tour. You have to book and then pick up a lanyard at a little office at the top of the hill before you turn left towards the castle entrance.

It was very good and reasonably priced. £5 per adult (not sure how much for a child) and £4.50 senior citizen. We went onto the 1.15pm tour of the castle, and it lasted approximately 4t minutes. The tour started at the gates and gave you a general background to the castle, then headed into the grounds and then into the castle itself. Some of the rooms were unavailable as the castle is still being used for college students. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable but the only downside was that sometimes it was a bit quite and difficult to hear. I'd really recommend going on the tour of the castle 🏰 🙂 hidden gem in Durham. You also have to arrive slightly early to collect your lanyards for the tour.

I enjoyed the tour I had of Durham Castle the guide was very knowledgeable, she was very polite & friendly too.
I just wish we'd had nice weather but you can't have everything!
Definitely book in advance for the tour it's £5 for a hour long tour.

Durham Castle, from here you can see the tower of Durham Castle and the walls near the entrance to the gate. Tourists cannot enter through the gate unless they are a student or a resident of Durham University. Guests of the bed and breakfast can also enter.

Took a guided tour around the castle, the guide was informative, open to questions, humorous and welcoming.
The castle is part of the university and during term times full of students eating, sleeping, studying and taking part in recreational activities.
The building is full of interesting architecture that ranges from Norman right through to Victorian as is all well preserved and maintained.

El castillo es utilizado como residencia universitaria y sin un guía autorizado no puedes ingresar, recomiendo que se informen antes del tipo de actividad que vaya a tener la universidad porque tal vez no pueden ingresar.
Pero si lo que buscás es una foto, se puede ingresar hasta la explanada, pedir permiso y hacer una foto panorámica del lugar gratis
