Exceptional. The steak tartare was delicious, the side of beef to share was wonderful. I didn’t get a look at the wine -list but the Beaujolais Villages we had complemented the meal wonderfully.

Overpriced and ungenerous with its portions, this place has a serious disconnect between what it is/can offer, versus what they want to be. Silver service crumbing (when they use a white cloth napkin to white down the tables between courses) was at odds with poor etiquette and training. You have to decide whether you’re: A) going to be a fine dining restaurant, where small portions are acceptable because quality of food and service pay dividends, B) going to be a tasty and elegant but down to earth bistro - in which case service can be more casual and the price point much lower than fine dining but still more expensive than a completely casual dining experience. Portions should then also be fair and the food exceptional for the price. Or C) be a completely casual no frills, hearty portioned, low prices fill-me-up, where staff are conversational and you’re there as much for the feeling of community as you are for the food. This place is trying to mix and match and unfortunately when that happens you’re raising expectations without following through on delivery. I.e. the soup was brought without putting down a spoon first, wine knowledge was poor, descriptions of food were unsure and far from eloquent, portions were very small for their price, extremely stingy portions of bread/accompaniments were given to steak tartare, soup, and pâté, and wine by the glass options were extremely limited with hefty price points for bottles. Would this be a problem if they weren’t so expensive or had decent portion sizes? No. As it is, it’s somewhere that for anyone serious about food I wouldn’t recommend - there are better places to spend your money.

We had one of the most memorable and exceptional dining experiences here on Friday evening for our wedding anniversary. We received a thoroughly warm welcome, in the gorgeously chic yet cosy space, exceptional service throughout, and incredible food. We shared the croquettes, shellfish bisque, and house baguette with butter, followed by the Cote de Boeuf with sides, and to finish, the chocolate sabayon and a Paris-Brest. All beautifully accompanied by one of the Bavette natural wines. Honestly, faultless. The atmosphere was buzzing and vibrant without being overpowering, the music was excellent, and the service was just the icing on the cake - knowledgeable, warm, chatty, a real sense of customer focus and a genuine care that we had an enjoyable time. It was also wonderful to see such a mixed demographic of clientele and this made us feel that this is truly a neighbourhood bistro. Everyone is welcome. Exceptional food - Exceptional service - Exceptional and standout addition to Yorkshire and (luckily for us) our local area. 11/10 can’t wait to return ❤️

We celebrated our anniversary at Bavette, and the atmosphere was both charming and welcoming . The staff was exceptionally warm and friendly, making us feel right at home. The food was nothing short of outstanding, and the desserts were simply fantastic. For starters, we enjoyed Cheese Croquettes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside with a creamy, velvety filling, and a flavourful and smooth Pâté. For mains, the Bavette steak was cooked to perfection, complemented by a rich sauce on the side. The Cassoulet, featuring duck, pork belly, and sausage, was incredibly tender and succulent. The Crème Brûlée, Paris-Brest, and chocolate cake were the perfect ending to our meal—each dessert was a delightful treat, beautifully crafted and bursting with flavour. Would highly recommend! EDIT: 1) my name isn’t Chanu lol 2) yes we shared because you’d assume a main that costs nearly £30 would have more than 100g of fish 3) my comment regarding 60pp refers to people buying starter, main and dessert in the hopes that they won’t leave starving and annoyed. Thanks for the response but I won’t be coming back to such a snobby overrated place 4) -1 star for trying to intimidate me by identifying exactly what we had, ok dude😂 + nice friendly staff + cosy atmosphere + interesting food choices and food was good - very small portions, monkfish comes with no side really compared to the steak that had a good portion of chips - sadly my partner left hungry. Delicious but tiny onion soup portion - I’d say overall poor value for money but if you wanna drop £60 pp without drinks you’ll be okay :)

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal last night, the food was excellent as was the atmosphere, but the service was incredible. I'm annoyed I didn't ask for the gentleman's name who looked after us but he knew exactly when to approach the table and how often, he offered advice on the menu and just had a genuine enthusiasm and friendliness that really added to the experience. The food and drinks are priced fairly for the quality and we all left very happy. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Been to Bavette several times now. This place makes you feel better from the moment you walk in, good atmosphere, chilled environment, food prepared with love, changing menus, and both owners are in almost always making sure the food & the service are up to standards. Love Clement & Sandy and truly appreciate bringing this passion to Leeds!

Bavette is a beautiful restaurant! It’s a perfect restaurant for foodies with a limited but well constructed menu. It’s not a cheap and cheerful, deep fry experience. This place turns out high quality food with a warm welcome. Not only this, they have an extensive wine list. This is organic wine made by the family of one of the restaurant owners! Clement, Sandy and the team know what they are doing and do a fine job! Keep up the good work guys!

I gave it 5 stars as I don't want to be the first to give 4. And it's a 4.5 from me really. I think my expectations were a little off the charts based on all the other reviews. The service was excellent, the cheese croquettes were very nice but they could perhaps be tastier, bavette steak and chips all very nice too but sauce dominated and the frites / chips could improve a fraction. It's great, but these guys will need to be perfect to survive here. *Returned yesterday and it was absolutely superb. I ate the same order basically but everything has been turned up to 11. Really superb. Well done.

+ espresso martini and old fashioned were amazing + French onion soup was really nice + the decor (except all the spotlights) + staff were really friendly and helpful + lots of wine choices - restaurant is bright. Need to get rid of the spotlights and replace with lamps/candles to create more of an atmosphere - told we weren’t allowed the cote de boeuf because there were only 2 people in our party and needed to be 3 people 🤷🏼‍♂️ - told we were only allowed Dauphinoise potatoes on the £65 set menu

We came here today for a birthday meal having followed these guys from before they opened and I was NOT disappointed. The service was incredible, staff knowledgable and the food was absolutely brilliant. An absolutely stand up example of how a proper restaurant should be run! 100% recommending to literally all my friends and returning! You guys are absolutely smashing it.

I did not enjoy this dinner.The starter for 2 people consisted of 7 dried sardines.The main course of beef was too chewy and couldn't be eaten. The wine cost £31 and was ordinary. I would not recommend this rip off restaurant.

We had a "brioched sausage" and braised cuttlefish for starters - I really enjoyed the cuttlefish, which was lovely and rich. For main, we shared a cote de boeuf. This was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had- possibly slightly too rare for this cut (and I say this as someone who likes my steak cooked blue). The sides were very very good though, lovely creamy dauphinoise potatoes and savoury/umami broccoli. Would definitely return, but would be more likely to choose a different main.

Fabulous restaurant, well worth travelling for. The most delicious food and first class service. We were 3 people and had roast veg tart, saucisson brioché and pork prune terrine for starters, 2 goats cheese & veg pithiviers, 1 duck. All absolute perfection. We were so full but had to try the desserts - best crème brùlée and Paris Brest ever. First time but will be back. My new favourite without a doubt.

We had a fantastic evening at Bavette. My partner is vegan and was extremely well catered for and didn’t feel like an inconvenience at all. I personally had the steak which was delicious. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and will certainly return.

What a treat! Lovely atmosphere as soon as we walked in, smart yet easy going. Very friendly welcome by young man with green eyes ( don't know his name!) As for the food😊Comté cheese croquettes were outstanding, monkfish with leeks and fondant potato in chive and butter sauce was delicious as was the Paris Brest. Superb food in a relaxing setting. Thank you!

What a fantastic addition to Horsforth, a ‘proper’ French restaurant! Loved everything about this place from the menu to the wine list, atmosphere and service I was taken straight back to a bistro in France. The highlight for me was the tarte tatin, it was so good and the best I’ve had outside of France. The onglet was perfectly cooked with the most delicious pepper sauce. I choose beetroot with remoulade for starters, which whilst good, I think I would have preferred the chicken liver pâté or the terrine. I had food envy! Good wine list and very helpful to make choices and my favourite Vin Jaune on by the glass. This is firmly my favourite restaurant in Leeds and I can’t wait to return
