Just had a garden tour at Ham House (7.3.2025) - absolutely brilliant - learnt so much even though I’ve been visiting Ham House for many years. Definitely recommend 🤗

We enjoyed the house , the garden and the shop, however the cafe was disappointing- the leek and potato soup was watery and like it had no potato in it. Lacked flavour.
The tea was weak and the teapots leaked - so much so that I had hot water spill onto my trouser leg.
We bought 2 slices of cake to make up for the soup which was not filling because it was watery and they were both dry and crumbly. Overpriced for the quality of the food. Would not recommend the cafe.

I'm forced by the website to put a star down , but actually I can award no stars to Ham House. In fact, my visit was so poor that I'm going to write a formal complaint. The highlight was that after queueing at the Cafe for a WHIOLE HOUR , I was given a half cooked , half frozen sandwich , risking getting food poisoning and being charged almost £20.00 for the privilege ! Nealy missed the house altogether because the Cafe was so poorly run. It was supposed to be a birthday treat and we drove almost 14 miles and mu husband sat by himself while I queued for an hour for food . Really , really rubbish day out. Would not recommend at all.

A 17C house with an interesting history during the Civil War and after. Unfortunately a significant part of the house was closed off. Not sure if that is usual. The gardens are large, with the main attraction at this time of year being huge lawns full of crocuses.

Shocking queues today in the one place to buy food and drinks - minimum half an hour; one elderly man collapsed as there is nowhere to rest as you queue. Although the staff were working flat out there is a big problem to solve here with regards to the food offer. Also, no wheelchair access to the cafe is set up- you have to ask for a ramp; what if you’re in your own? The NT at Ham needs to think of its elderly demographic; the lack of food and drink alternatives nearby; and be more innovative. A shed with tea and cakes? Filter coffee only? Don’t leave your visitors in the lurch like this …(And by the way, having made a formal complaint about wheelchair accessibility two years ago, nothing has improved).

Very nicely maintained mansion with great history and beautiful detail in architecture. If u know Uk history would make it more fun.
The gardens were beautiful and again well maintained and have many sections so u need to check out different paths to enter different areas. The cafe is situated at the Horta though in the winter it’s a bit out of vegetation. Very nice outdoor seatings for catching some sun.

Originally built in 1610 the house has original furniture and paintings from period. Lovely setting by river and 17C garden restored by National Trust.
It is easily walkable from Richmond Station - just walk to the river, the best route is across Richmond Green and turn left on the towpath under Richmond Bridge and continue along the towpath (also the Thames Path) passing the island on the right (Glover's Island) and then you can see Marble Hill House on the other bank, next by the ferry landing turn right over a small wooden bridge and you are at Ham House.
Currently (1st March 2025) the garden has a wonderful display of crocuses on the grass platts, with a sea of purple flowers, catch it while you can they only last 2 weeks.

Loved it 8/10 years since last visit but greatly improved. Well worth a visit if you can cope with 20 mph speed limit.

Lovely house and gardens. Plenty of expert helpers dotted around to give further insight to the history and stories of some of the people who have lived there.

Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're in the area or have a national trust membership, but not only.
