Opinion: Perfect portion for two. Full of beef, prawns and vegetables. Rice came solid warm.

Opinion: Perfectly cooked beef in black bean sauce. Too much big portions for one person. Ideal to share.

Opinion: One of the best soup that I have tried so far. Usually Tom Yum is spicy in other Thai restaurants. This one is mild but doesn't taste watery at all.

Opinion: Massive size prawns. Tendered, juicy but not soggy. Enough to share in between two.

Its our second time for a meal here, brought the family for Sunday all you can eat, we were all hungry and the guys didn't disappoint !
Lots of choice and freshly cooked to order the meal was fantastic and staff were awesome too great service!

Had a lovely family meal here today, the staff are very lovely and good with children too. Food was delicious, have been a few times before and definitely will eat here again.

The food was amazing! The buffet menu is definitely an easy choice with a lot of the dishes from the main menu. I was very full after my starter and main. There was a bit of confusion as some of us wanted to order from the main menu and some not but it was quickly sorted but the friendly front of house staff. I recommend any of the satay dishes!

We absolutely loveeee this place. The food is perfect, always tastes great and tastes so freshhh. The staff are AMAZING, my daughter Mila absolutely adores Nish. I think they are just such a great family and they are so tentative and so polite. I wish I could see them everyday.
If you haven’t tried already, you should go try it out! You will not regret it. If you do or you find a fault I hate to say it but it’s a you problem for sure!

Service from the young waiter was a bit naff in all honesty. He walked around with our food for a while before realising where he was going. But it didn’t matter as the food was delicious. Tasty, fresh and very nice. Recommend!!

The Chequers Thai Restaurant in Royston is a great addition to the town. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is very friendly. The restaurant has a very nice feel - we keep meaning to get take out but always end up eating in the restaurant instead. I am a Coeliac and they have a good, well labelled menu and I have never had any issues with the food. If you tell them you have any allergies or intolerances they take extra good care to talk you through the menu, and are careful when bringing out the food to ensure it goes to the right person. Will be visiting again soon!

Food was okay, starters were greasy. But never have I been so insulted by the wait staff. Will never be returning and frankly I’d suggest never coming there are better local options.

We’ve been here a few times and definitely will continue to be a returning customer however they always get funny about us taking our leftovers home. Considering the food (hopefully) is going in the bin, I really don’t see the problem with it. We pay for the full portion size so we should be able to take it home, every other restaurant allows you too! Makes you wonder if they’re being 100% truthful about the ingredients. It’s being taken home to eat - I’m not going to give them a Tesco scandal lol 🐴🥩

The meal wasn’t to bad the starter we had the mixed starter for 2 was the highlight of the evening I order for main the prawns in black bean but found they were covered in a bread crumb, once covered in the sauce became very soggy which put me off I really didn’t like the bread crumb coating, other than the main meal service was good and atmosphere was good the service staff we very attentive

The Chequers restaurant has a strange atmosphere almost pub like, When we arrived most tables were full with people of a certain age, Service was good with polite staff but we found the food a bit disappointing. The Red curry wasn't red and it was very sweet, The beef Massaman was again overly sweet with tiny thin bits of beef and didn't have any depth of flavour.
The food wasn’t awful but it wasn't authentic Thai, £75 for two people seems a bit steep for the portion sizes.

Great atmosphere - food not as expected.
Really enjoyed our night at the Chequers, the restaurant had a really good atmosphere. When we arrived all the tables were full and people clearly enjoying themselves. Service was good with polite and friendly staff but I found the food disappointing. The mixed platter starter felt generic and not a crab cake in site. The mains all suffered from being to sweet, I get a pad Thai has a bit of palm sugar but it was too heavy handed, for me the chicken shouldn’t be battered. Our green curry and pad kra pao (again battered chicken) should have been fragrant and spicy but the overwhelming taste was again sweetness.
This review is not to say the food wasn’t tasty because it was but if you are after authentic Thai you have other better options locally. That said it was a good night - £190 for 4 people albeit it with 2 bottles of wine and a couple of extra drinks.

Came here for the Sunday menu and the food was delicious. Piping hot, really fresh and good flavours. The renovations are my vibe - nice and cosy with a modern twist and the service was great. Will definitely be coming back.

This is a review of the restaurant (it's still listed as a hotel so not sure how to review just the restaurant). We came here on opening night on valentines day, and came today for the Sunday all you can eat buffet. Both times we loved it! Food is great quality, probably the best Thai food in Royston. The staff are really friendly. The buffet is great value for money and it's a great way to try lots of different dishes. We will definitely return. I would recommend trying to delete the old reviews pre 14 Feb as they are for the Chequers under previous ownership and are dragging the ratings down!

Every review before 14-2-2024 is not for the current Thai restaurant business in this location. The thai is the latest in a line of business to try and make the chequers location work.
It's pretty new at the point we used it. Food was delicious. Wine was a bit expensive. There was a small issue with our starters arriving more than 10 minutes apart. But it was a busy night and these things are to be expected with a new place.
Food was great though. I'm sure the rest will figure out over time

Great to see new life in this old coaching inn!
This review is not about the old Chequers Hotel and Public House, it is about the new Thai Restaurant and Hotel. I have no idea yet what the food or accomodation is like but I wish the owners well, and with work in progress regarding the refurbishment. Very attractive display and signage. It is great to see the building "up and running" again and as previously stated I wish the owners every success in their new business and look forward to eating there soon!
