A great place to spend an hour or two — and a solace in an otherwise awful city

I went to my local museum to see the new temporary exhibition on Star wars toys , which runs until the start of June . The price is £6 for adults and £4 for children , and can be bought on arrival . The exhibition is quite small on its own , but does give a reason to visit the rest of the museum, which is free to enter . The displays concentrate on the original film trilogy, with a mixture of toys , costume replicas and a few screen used items . I admit that I have a lot of the toys already , however there were plenty of playsets that I do not have or in some cases not seen before . All in all good fun if a little slight . The main permanent exhibits of the museum are the famous Staffordshire hoard, and the recently refurbished Spitfire display . There is also a lot of ceramics , and it is worth noting that Stoke - on - Trent will be celebrating it's centenary this summer . There is good shop , cafe and toilet facilities on site , and easily accessible via bus or plenty of nearby parking spaces .

What a wonderful example of a council / city run museum (and therefore free)! It's worth going just to see the Spitfire aeroplane and the excellent spitfire related display but the rest of the museum is also good. The café is a bit basic but it's also cheap - which is a plus in my book.

I was pleasantly surprised at the potteries museum. We took our Year-old who loved the exhibits. The spitfire was fantastic. In particular there were no queues and a voluntary contribution is asked for on entrance. Very easy to get to from the nearby John Street car park or you can walk up from Tesco

Great museum! The Staffordshire Hoard is truly worth the visit. Very knowledgeable staff on hand to explain and answer questions about the various artifacts. Would recommend and would visit again and spend more time.

The museum is slowly being modernised and is getting better every time we go. They have got entertainment on virtually every weekend. The new spitfire exhibition has given this place a new lease of life and the café and picnic area right next to it is fantastic. The cafe is very reasonably priced and has plenty of seating.

Very well managed museum with the most interesting collection of artistic pottery across the ages, with beautiful examples of ceramics from this renowned centre of industrial creativity.

I'm not sure what I was expecting at the museum, I suppose I presumed it would be all pottery but was pleasantly surprised at what was on display. Well worth a visit.

Brilliant place. "Must see " exhibits in the museum and the art galleries. Free to visit, child friendly. I've been to others that charge but are nowhere near as good.

Lovely museum with stunning ceramics plus the spitfire gallery. Cafe was not as good had a hot chocolate served cold and cheese oatcakes served with hidden ham, l'm a vegetarian of thirty years so a bit of a shock to find meat in the oatcake. No lift available so l had access problems which all in all clouded the day.
