Highly recommended! We went at the coldest, wettest time of the year and we still had such a wonderful time in this magical place, we didn't want to leave! My father was able to visit the building opposite his ancestorial home and spent along time chatting to staff about special memories and practices from that time from "when he was a boy" The staff in character in the buildings were brilliant and made it so special and educational for my two children (14 & 11) who can't want to go back. The site is dog friendly (other than the buildings understandably) and our four legged really enjoyed exploring and enjoying the water bowls positioned regularly around the site. Highly recommend the Irish Stew and Soup in the cafe, and a visit to Ballyveaghmore:)x

The Ulster Folk Museum is absolutely breathtaking, an incredible feat of preservation and storytelling. The way entire buildings have been carefully relocated and arranged to create an authentic village spanning different eras is nothing short of remarkable. Walking through the streets, stepping into homes, schools, and shops, and experiencing life as it once was is an unforgettable experience.
There’s something truly magical about this living museum, can’t be described and you have to experience it. The atmosphere, the attention to detail, and the passion of the staff and volunteers bring history to life in the most engaging way. Everyone we spoke to was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, happy to share stories and insights that added so much depth to the visit. I have never been interested in reed baskets, but certainly know more now and it’s pretty amazing.
I only wish I’d had more time here, it’s the kind of place you could explore for hours and still find new details to marvel at, from the sweet shop to pub, to soda bread to the silent cinema… If you’re visiting the area, this is an absolute must-do. Thank you to everyone who makes this incredible experience possible!

Well informed staff, great way to spend 4-5 hours. Wish/hope they have the funds to continue the time frame past the present 1840’d

Brilliant Christmas experience even though it was cold. Characters toasting chestnuts, cinnamon, toast, carol, singers and lots to see and do loved it.

Just not much 'on' for Christmas at the folk museum.. Interesting history but not very fun for kids or adults really and so, overpriced.

The Ulster Folk Museum is a fascinating step back in time, offering an immersive glimpse into Northern Ireland’s 19th and early 20th-century life. The open-air museum features over 30 restored buildings, including cottages, shops, a schoolhouse, and a working farm, all brought to life by staff in period costumes demonstrating traditional crafts. The beautifully maintained grounds, interactive exhibits, and engaging demonstrations make it perfect for families and history enthusiasts alike. With plenty of walking paths, picnic areas, a charming café, and a lovely gift shop, it’s a unique and educational day out that’s well worth a visit.

We took the kids here and they absolutely loved it. The guides all positioned around the site in authentic costume made it so interesting for the children. We managed to get some food and drinks in the tea room which was pretty reasonable. Would love to go back again!

When we visited the American Folk Museum we bought an annual ticket for two adults which allows us to visit all 4 museums as many times as we like which was cost effective as we have bought a few visitors there and it allowed us to visit here for nothing.
Very helpful man at the entrance. Not many people there but that’s not a bad thing, felt like we had the place to ourselves.
Very interesting, staff are friendly and helpful and there is a nice cafe you can stop off and have a cuppa and something to eat.

Visited on an interactive day. Live players for a murder mystery!!! The corner shop was open for sweet treats. There was culcannon and apple tart laid on for tasting, both delicious. A few buildings were closed, but this didn't spoil the visit. There is so much to see.
Every house was engrossing in its history. The wood Smith was fantastic, this pieces are incredible. The stool with a craved Irish Hare motive was beautiful.
We saw a working loom, the material was available to buy at the gift shop!!! There is a working pub with licence. Enjoyed a proper old pint in a period sympathetic glass in an authentic Irish pub.
The smell of peat/turf fire smouldering in the country building still lingers in my memory. The cafe food was delicious and the made Halloween toy bats and spiders from pine cones!
We visited for 6 hours and still had more that we could have stayed to enjoy, unfortunately the park was closing.
There is an ancient monolithic stone burial site.
The live band playing authentic Irish instruments was a particular highlight, the fiddle, tin whistle and Uillean pipes.
5/5 I recommend.
