What a great location with the friendly hospitality you will only find with Derek and Jean -- the owners and creators of this very special place. I recommend this hotel establishment highly. Peace and tranquility on a swan lake with a surrounding walking path and a 9-hole golf course make this an exquisite retreat for all.

What an amazing stay I had at The Lodge on the Loch. Stunning scenery; cosy, clean and comfortable accommodation; a friendly welcome (even the other guests were friendly!); delicious food; relaxing spa treatments; free Wi-Fi; and a beautiful view from my room.
A huge shout out to the owner for being so attentive and kind; what a truly special lady she is ❤️
I highly recommend The Lodge on the Loch, and I look forward to visiting there again soon.

My only complaint was I was only staying one night ! We were in the family suite , the rooms were spacious, warm and clean. The shower was powerful , always a bonus . The bar area was very cleverly sectioned to provide a feeling of intimacy although you were in a shared room .
The hosts were friendly and informative and I enjoyed 3 or 4 drams off the excellent single malt gantry with some impressive guidance from the owner . The full Scottish breakfast was of excellent quality and very well cooked . ( nice coffee too ) Throw in the breathtaking scenery and what’s not to love ! I’ll be back in the better weather for more than one night ,for sure !

Brilliant stayed in suit last night I think I left shorts in the sauna room but overall was lovely very friendly owner our breakfast was lovely fresh fruit granola and yogurt!! The other reviews about friendliness seem very strange because I found the female especially friendly and helpful 🙂

TLDR: Not as good as expected considering the price and 4 star hotel rating.
Pros:
-Great Location
-Good sized room (gymnasium suite with sauna)
-Service was friendly
Cons:
-A lot of strange rules and added charges
-The restaurant was a far cry from the high class pictures of the food on the website and overpriced (£2.50 for a glass of soda water)
-Room felt a little disheveled; stains on curtain in bathroom, floating bedside table had come off the wall, broken board on outside decking
-Room layout was strange as it was previously a gym; huge mirror wall, old fire exit sign with piece of cardboard over the top, furniture blocking the sliding doors to the deck
-Private hot tub not very private as on the deck that connects the downstairs rooms and looked over by the upstairs rooms

Very disappointing. Avoid this place. The owner is rude and arrogant, she ruined our stay at this beautiful location…shame.

Absolutely disgusting attitude from Jean the owner, would not recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed and hospitable stay.
Constantly overcharged us for basic amenities and tried to add them to our bill. Condescending and racist towards non-Scots, which is not representative of Scottish people at all.

What a gem of a hotel! The great location overlooks the Loch of Aboyne. Perfect view to start and end the day. There is also a 9-hole golf course that is in excellent shape. The innkeepers, Jean and Derrick, were friendly, and Jean was happy to get into a conversation about the area and the changes over the years. The room was immaculate with nice touches like lots of outlets for phones and tablets. We had breakfast, dinner, and drinks in the onsite restaurant. Everything was very tasty, and the views of the loch added to the enjoyment of our meals. The location was central to Crathes Castle, Balmoral and the River Dee, the Tomnaverie Stone Circle, and the Highland Games Stadium. It is also a great starting point for exploring the Cairngorns.

Our room overlooked the loch and it was breathtaking. The proprietors were very friendly and accommodating. Any direction you look while on the property is beautiful. We found ourselves having drinks on the patio every night looking out over the loch. The food was delicious and the portions were more than enough. We will definitely visit this wonderful establishment again on our next trip to Scotland! There aren’t enough words to describe how fabulous this little Lodge is.

Overall, it just didn't feel in-keeping with the price and the star rating. If the room was half the price, my review would have been glowing, but with big league prices, you expect big league hospitality. Paid £205 for one night, room with hot tub.
More details below;
We stayed one night as a treat for my birthday in March 2023. It started with a locked door and the place looked closed. Managed to get in when one of the owners came out but that was after walking around the outside looking for another entrance. Inside the lady owner was really pleasant. We had to pre order breakfast and dinner shortly after check-in. The room was clean but was a bit surreal as it had a mix of tasteful decor and old furniture that wouldn't have looked out of place in 1960's Bulgaria. It simply didn't flow for the cost of the room. We went for a room that was advertised as having a private hot tub. In reality there was a hot tub on communal decking outside the room. Most of the hotel looked onto this decking so it was more exclusive hot tub use rather than private, as many windows looking down on you. Hot tub was over chlorinated to the point where there was a chemical scum on the surface and the skin felt slippery at first but quickly went dry. Views over the loch were amazing though. Next was the restaurant for our pre ordered food. We were the only ones there for the first 30 mins which felt awkward as there was no music or atmosphere. Felt like we had to whisper. Our starter came out in under 2 minutes of sitting down. The waitress kept coming out of the kitchen and looking at us. After about 5 minutes I could hear her shouting that "he is nearly finished" which made me feel I had to rush. She cleared the plates and the main was out in under 2 minutes. I had the scampie in a basket which was edible. All the food options were basic pub food style. Prices did reflect this but when you pay £205 for a "luxury hotel" room, you do expect the menu to be a bit more elegant. The waitress had very little interaction with us apart from delivering meals. Not an unpleasant experience but not a great one either. My wife said it reminded her of the TV show "phoenix nights" which I would agree with.

Both my partner and I loved this place. Had a relaxing weekend. Room was fabulous with a great view of the loch. Amenities were amazing and Jean and Derek couldn’t have done enough for us. The spa treatment and massage bed really worked wonders on my stress levels and muscle pain. Breakfast was really good and eating while enjoying the view set us up for the day. I know if I get the chance to go back to the area this is where I will be staying.

We stayed here for 2 nights and for the price, the hotel was disappointing. There was a shower as soon as we walked into the room (not in the bathroom) which should be advertised when you’re booking so that you can avoid this if you want to. The room was also small and again, for the high premium charged, I expected better.
You also had to choose what you wanted for breakfast the night before, and although it was tasty, the portion size was small (1 piece of toast with the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon/ 1 poached egg on toast) and on the menu they had the cheek to say that if you wanted extra things added eg scrambled eggs with the full breakfast rather than poached or fried there would be an additional fee. There was no option to just have bacon and eggs without the risk of adding to the cost. Would this have cost more or would that have been included in the price?? The service was also a bit stern, making me reluctant to ask more questions.
The view from the hotel was nice.

The location is superb with many points of interest nearby. You want to enjoy a nice holiday YOU MUST AVOID catching days during the week because you risk being alone and being suggested to serve the meal outside (because it "is not really nice" to prepare only for two people); Allow time for the hot tub BUT NOT for the massage because there is no person (or possibility?) to adjust the massage bed according to the height of each person. In this case there is a risk of injuring your back like us. You also want a relaxing evening in the beautiful bar area with a drink (??), don't expect chips or peanuts to be served to you other than in a bag. Breakfast depends on luck... we received it cold even if we arrived 15 minutes before the announced time. Otherwise, the surroundings, especially Braemar, wonderful places and kind people. Thus, I hope our experiences will be helpful for others.

I booked a room with private hot tub for my friends 40th birthday, Saturday just passed. We arrived and got a lovely welcome from the owners Derek and Jean. Jean then showed us our room, the leisure suite which we were blown away by, huge room, massive bed which was very comfy. Big bathroom with a big bath tub, huge balcony looking over the loch with our own private hot tub. We also had our own wet room with sauna and plunge pool. We had dinner which was fab and breakfast the next day which was fresh and really tasty. Friendly staff and very helpful. We honestly had the best weekend and can’t wait to go back. Would highly recommend this beautiful place to anyone :-)

Despite my arrival was on the day HM Queen was taken from Balmoral we were greeted with a smile and kind welcome. We came here for rest and relaxation and to make local visits to places of interest. We spent most afternoons on the verander relaxing in beautiful views. The accomodation was good, the owners were so friendly and could not be more helpful and gracious. The breakfast was great. I would most certainly recommend the Lodge on Loch aboyne for it's great views, the accomodation and service. Thank you so much for making our break so good.

Está sobrevalorado, relación calidad precio mediocre, la habitación tiene unas vistas muy bonitas, pero es muy pequeña. Pedimos un desayuno escocés completo, y era más bien escaso, y poco trabajado.

Completely and utterly overpriced at £160.00 per night plus breakfast!! Double rooms have single beds with springs that are pushed together. A Spa retreat?? the place requires knocking down and rebuilding with new owners - AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Honestly it's a place I would avoid.
Staff very un helpful. And if I'm honest rude. I am a proud Scot and this is not Scottish hospitality. Room was full of cobwebs, shower in the bedroom as soon as you open the door. Shower was dirty and no instructions, when I asked the staff member for help.he said he would look at it when I had gone out..I was going to a wedding and needed a shower. I really felt I had put him.out some what by asking him. , bin in the bathroom was so beaten up. TV fixed to the wall but pointing to the floor.
The bed valance was either to big or just thrown on....
Had to ask for more coffee as there was only 2 sachets and that seemed to be a inconvenience.
And I got charged 10.50 for 6 slices of bacon as it was an extra...I had fruit and yogurt and asked for bacon ....I didn't realise I had to pay extra....honestly.
Supposed to be a 4 star hotel....definitely not.....a stunning location but oh it needs money and a lot of love...

Room was lovely and the view perfect but very very misleading on the spa facilities. This was a special treat for a friend and the soa area was very Dirty and unkempt. Very disappointed to find not and actual masseuse but a plug in bed considering they show nice spa table and fluffy towels on the picture on the website. Missleading on website and on checking out again, the picture they show the room with the spa bed looks tidy and it's not, and definitely not relaxing, the spa bed hurts your back, very uncomfortable, food was mediocre and was a bit appalled at finding out they charged £2.50 for ice, considering the amount I spent with them for an overnight. Breakfast was good, best part of our stay was sitting in the room looking out onto the loch view . . . Advise people NOT to take the spa pamper package . . Its definitely not worth the money . . Take a room only . . .
