XMAS DAY 2024 DISASTER I was there that day and our sitting was for 3:30pm for 10 people, we arrived at 3:30pm and we were told there was a 45 minute delay , we were lucky enough to return home to help them out. After we arrived back at 4:20pm we waited another 20mins for our table, once seated our table did not accomodate our booked party with 3 places short. A further table and chairs were requested, table given and no seats ! Our tables had no tablecloth, crackers, decorations, just napkins literally stuck to the table, no glasses, no cutlery. We waited 1.5hrs for our starter with replacements being made due to running out. Proceeded to wait another 1.5hrs for our main course which was pitiful/cold again we asked repeatedly for cutlery and even had to clear our own dishes between courses. Following another long wait we requested our pudding in take away containers as it was now 8pm. Being fair to the Aboukir we did receive a full refund and complimentary drinks, however it did ruin our day as it was our first time out for a Christmas day meal. Would not recommend or ever return.

This review is in regards to the "Christmas dinner" Aboukir has unfortunately decided to do this year. For Christmas this year we decided we wanted to eat out for the first time to give my folks a break from all the cooking and preparing and have a stress free Christmas. We decided to give Aboukir a shot as they promised a "magical" evening filled with good food and entertainment. Prosecco to be handed out to everyone on arrival, really selling the idea that Aboukir will host this great event and make sure everyone has the best Christmas ever. This was far from the truth. When we arrived for our 2.30 booking, we seen a small gathering at the front door, No staff there to greet us. We where told by other customers waiting outside that they are currently delayed by 30 minutes. I understand delays can happen and sometimes just unavoidable, but the fact we were never told this by staff and had to hear it from other customers is really poor ! no call in advance to say they are running late. This raises the first alarm bell, Sadly many more go off by the end of the night. We eventually got seated at 4pm. we were seated at a table which had much more space and chairs that we require, Then another family got seated to a table next to us shortly after, in which it was too small and couldn't fit them all (slightly bigger party than us) so they had to be split up which is an absolute shambles as they gave us a table that was too big for us ! they either mixed up the tables or were panicking to get people seated that they never proper planned how to do it. We also booked a high chair in which we had to request 3 times before I had to go find one in the building. After searching I was unable to find one, staff then brought a high chair from outside and had to wipe it down with baby wipes due to it being outside for a while. After waiting for over an hour and a party with very hungry bellies, The first disappointment was served to us. A lukewarm soup with a tiny portion served with what tasted and felt like very cheap bread. Due to us being very hungry and only being 4 spoonful's at best, This was gone before I thought to take a picture. As I was complaining about the portion size, I heard the manager go to the next table and inform that they ran out of soup and had to serve their kids pakora, so it now made sense why I was served a stingy serving. HOW CAN YOU HOST AN XMAS DINNER AND NOT PROPERLY PLAN AND PORTION ALL MEALS for your booking????? VERY VERY POOR !!!! The only staff that was customer facing was mostly two under 18's who the manager was more than happy to take the brunt of peoples complaints. The manager was mostly hiding at the back and was scared to come address peoples concerns or to even bother his arse apologising. Head in the sand the complete night. I felt very sorry for the two bar girls who looked so upset and stressed. Seems more than just customers Christmas getting ruined by this incompetent manager. after everyone finished their lacklustre starter (which felt only took 3 mins) we then wated a further 2 hours till our "main" came. This was the straw that broke the camels back. The steak pie I was served for my Christmas dinner was completely unnace3ptable for a normal meal out, never mind a Christmas dinner in which they charge £60 per head (picture below). After we were served that we got up and notified the bar staff that we had enough and were leaving. Still no apology, still no explanation two days later and they even have the cheek to then advertise their Hogmanay event without addressing their disaster of a Christmas dinner. The manager is one of the most unprofessional and useless managers I ever came across. You can tell that he is way out of his depth with his role. He couldn't organise a kids birthday party never mind a Christmas dinner. He never spoke to customers to apologise for the delay, he never offered any free drinks for the delay, the food looks cheap and the whole event feel like a cost-cutting cash grab. No Christmas music, Hardly any Christmas decoration, Avoid this place!

We heard some very good things about this restaurant and came with friends. Restaurant was large and comfy with inviting lighting and some lovely booths to relax in with friends. The manager and staff were all very friendly and helpful. I had a Tandori chicken and lamb sizzler which was superb as was my egg rice and a huge minced naan. Penny had the prawn sizzler which was lovely. The menu was diverse with pizzas and gyros, all made on site. One of the only times I couldn't finish and took some home. Afterwards we retired to the bar area where we played a friendly game of pool. An excellent evening was had by all. Highly recommend.

Owner harasses every customer upon entry. Owner full of confidence and even sits on your table at times whilst your trying to eat, what is that all about min? Have been put right off only came in for food not to make a new best friend min........ Doug.

Quite possibly the best food ive ever tasted !!! The Egyptian kebab tandoori sizzler with rice and a cheese and garlic naan was out of this world !!! Excellent service also 👏🏻

Excellent Indian menu here and great, friendly service. Had a delicious Madras curry on latest visit. Lovely rich sauce, perfect amount of heat without overpowering the flavours. Lots of tender lamb in the dish, considerably more than some others I've visited recently. Recommended :-)

My friend and I had fab lamb madras and South Indian lamb with spicy rice and garlic nan. Plenty of meat, plenty of flavour and just the right amount of heat. Service was top notch and prices super reasonable.

Fancied a shawarma recently and seen aboukir is only of the only places near by that offered it so fires right in to order one. I went for a mixed kebab with shawarma and doner with chilli sauce. Delivery was very quick which was excellent. I wouldn’t really describe what I was given as shawarma. It just looked like ripped up chicken breast and lacked any sort of flavour, like it was just tasteless. Fortunately the rest of it was excellent: the doner, chilli sauce and home made pitta were all beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve given 3* because of the shawarma, but if that was right it would be promoted to a 5.

Outstanding meal and service. First time visiting this pub-restaurant and it won’t be the last! The menu is very extensive. Chilli doner kebab was incredible! 10/10. My partner loved her curry and naan! Both my daughters loved their meals and can’t wait to return for another :)

First visit since the change of ownership. Only popped on for a drink and a quick look. Good service at the bar on arrival. Still serving McEwan's 80/- beer, so that's a plus mark right away. The food was always good there, however, I have not tried it since the change. Good prices at the moment. Didn't see much difference in decor since the ownership change. Hopefully this will be a success as it is a popular place in Carnoustie.

Went to sunday carvery buffet, meat was ok, but vegetables all raw and mash potatoes lumpy, complained but nothing they could do, all in all, bad experience, stick to the curries!

A lively and brightly lit bar/bistro with good food options and keenly priced drinks available. Flexible seating options cater for single diners, couples, small parties or larger groups (speak with the staff for bookings) If the weather is fine, make use of the patio terrace and garden space - very pleasant during the summer.

Had yet another fantastic night at the Aboukir last night, great food, great atmosphere, great attentive staff and folk band playing some amazing tunes, loved it!
