we had a lovely stay at Thainstone house. it’s a beautiful building with lots of charm. the service was impeccable- reception & wait staff were friendly & welcoming. the room service was high quality, even topping us up on drinks & snacks. I had an amazing massage from Samantha in the spa, who was very professional. the food was 10/10, with the best fish & chips and sticky toffee pudding i have ever had. highly recommend!

Lovely looking hotel , nice staff , however rooms really small , 2 adults could barely move around . Poorly lit , and possibly one of the most uncomfortable mattresses ever . Wouldn't stay again . There was a wedding on the night we stayed and was very noisy .

Don’t book a room at this hotel. We went for a nice night away booked a room with a bath. Unfortunately no hot water all night or morning. Had to leave unwashed. Phoned the reception twice, who promised manager would call or visit room. We waited all morning right until check out time, but no one came. We even missed the breakfast from waiting. No apology at reception in the morning. We called general manager Elaine who promised compensation however not heard anything. Such a shame as the place looks stunning and the young gentleman who worked in the resteraunt and bar at night were so professional. Let down by reception and general management. Can’t advise enough, not to book at this hotel.

Location is amazing and beautiful. Rooms are OK, big but old and floor is noisy. Restaurant is no way in standard of 4 star hotel. And swimming pool is a joke. Dirty and cold. I wouldn't go back there

Cheap nightly rate but deservedly so, we had a room on the top floor the windows were absolutely covered in black mould and the sills and surrounds all rotting, pretty disgusting. The place looks great at a glance but then you notice thread bare carpets and worn out seating. Breakfast service was so SLOW, none of the juices or continental items were topped up. Dog friendly hotel and you can tell in the communal areas, it smells of dog. Some serious money needs to be spent to bring this place up to scratch. Staff were friendly and nice. And we paid £115 so can't complain too much...

We had quite a disappointing experience, we booked the room on the Thainstone house website, we paid extra for a larger bed "super king deluxe" and some extras like a fruit platter, when we arrived they gave us the wrong sized bed, was a standard double when we paid for a super king deluxe, there was also no fruit platter. We were confirmed on the booking for the restaurant, but the restaurant was closed. Instead, they served us in the bar on weird low lounge chairs. It felt a bit silly making us eat in an area that's designed as a lounge, low slouch chairs, etc. They gave 3 different reasons as to why we couldn't eat at a table, considering they have 3 other rooms designed for dining it seemed a bit of a bad decision, other guests came in and looked pretty cheesed off at the arrangements. The gym and pool were really run down. It's not the sort of place you expect when you pay well over £300 for the entire experience. For that price and the house reputation we expected something really nice, I had to pretend to be happy as I didn't want to stress my girlfriend out, we had driven down from the Highlands for her to have a medical procedure at Aberdeen hospital, I thought it would break the journey up and make my girlfriend less nervous to spend the night in a posh hotel, I was mistaken. The one thing that saved this was that the food was amazing, but be warned, a pint of standard beer is £12. I left feeling like I had been really ripped off, wouldn't mind paying more if the place met the expectations.

Enjoyed a beautiful one night stay on their Sunday spa package. We were treated to a surprise upgrade to a King Suite which was absolutely lovely - including very sweet messages and goodies in the room. The suite was super clean and had everything you needed. The restaurant was fine dining cuisine and absolutely delicious complimented by the wonderful service by a young gentleman. Big compliments to the chefs and waiting staff. The bar was unmanned on arrival so we had a slight wait to get afternoon drinks, however enjoyed them in the lounge near the main stairs when they arrived. After dinner we explored the hotel to find a superb billards room downstairs, well worth a game after dinner. In the morning, breakfast was delicious with lots of continental choice to choose from. The spa has a sauna, steam room, indoor pool and indoor hot tub, there is also an outdoor area which can be privately hired. We also enjoyed a 25 minute treatment each on our day of departure, which was very relaxing. Highly recommend a stay at Thainstone House.

We booked a Twilight Spa package with the leisure club at Thainstone House so haven’t booked any rooms there but will say the spa was amazing! We had booked last minute for my birthday and they were amazing at getting back to me when I had questions about our booking! Samantha our therapist for our salt and oil scrubs was amazing! So lovely and did a brilliant job at making this an easy and relaxing experience( for someone with bad anxiety I was very appreciative)! We arrived and got some fruit bowls and some coffee before heading into treatments and the spa and I honestly just don’t even have a bad word to say, everyone was so helpful and lovely, the place was clean and relaxing so definite 5/5 from me and my guests! Thankyou all again! 🧡

We took a doggie room so appreciate why the room looked a little tired but the whole hotel is scheduled for an update so look forward to going back after it's done. Food fantastic. We stayed in for evening meal. Drinks a bit on the expensive side but B&B rates very good. Lots of grounds for dog walking and dogs were very welcome in most parts of the hotel.

Lovely place and the all the staff are so welcoming and helpful. We booked for our anniversary and took our wee pup with us he felt very loved the entire trip for him to pay back by leaving a present in the reception, we felt so bad but they were so amazing and forgiving to him. Amazing experience all around. 🥰

Oh, how the might have fallen! My daughter was married here 2 years ago and we had the most wonderful day and couldn't fault a thing from start to finish with fantastic service, beautiful cuisine and attentive staff. So great was it, we decided to return for afternoon tea to celebrate her 30th birthday - big mistake! "A couldn't care less attitude" is the only way to sum up this fiasco. It started off when my friend and I ordered a bottle of wine; Pinot - what could be easier? After half an hour and the rest of our party being served their drinks in dribs and drabs, we were finally told there was no Pinot and could we choose something else. In the meantime, our lacklustre, mediocre afternoon tea (the clue is in the name) was served but without any acknowledgement from the waitress as to whether we'd prefer tea or coffee with our sandwiches, cakes and scones. We waited another half hour and eventually asked another waiter, poor Lleyton, who was totally mortified by this stage and he kindly obliged and got our hot drinks for us, only they weren't hot but tepid warm. When we told him this, again he apologised profusely and went to get us more. The second lot were better, so why were the first cups such a disaster? We then asked for my daughter's birthday cake to be brought out (we had supplied this ourselves with candles). It eventually appeared with a different, cheap, half-hearted attempt at a set of used mini birthday candles. Ours were never made mention of! Whilst all this catastrophe played out, not once did management appear to apologise or explain but put poor Lleyton out to take the brunt and blame and deal with our misfortune. He is a wonderful lad and doesn't deserve that kind of treatment from his superiors. Thainstone House do not appreciate what an asset and good employee they have in him. To go back to the food; we were so disappointed. This hotel, that previously had such a wonderful reputation, served 3 little plates of tasters and tried to pass them off as afternoon tea. This was not a meal. Most other afternoon teas I have experienced elsewhere provide a feast and in many cases, a doggy bag is required as there is so much food to go round. In Thainstone's case, I'm sure the men must still have been hungry afterwards but too polite to say. Sadly, I shall no longer be recommending Thainstone House to friends and family and it is a disappointment on what used to be such a fantastic venue and hold such fond memories for us.

I'd been coming here regularly after discovering the outdoor barrel sauna, but I went up a couple of weeks ago to find that they have now closed this all off to spa / gym users and made it private hire only. That is pretty disappointing, as it was the best part about the spa. The guy at reception had pointed out that the indoor sauna was still an option (it was out of order at the time) but the indoor sauna here is terrible, having never been hotter than lukewarm when I've visited and I've tested it plenty of times in order to give it the benefit of the doubt. I understand the need to save energy to reduce costs, but nobody is getting any theraputic benefit from sitting in a slightly warmed room. I've heard quite a few people voice the same opinion on that while I've been there. I see as well that another recent reviewer had similar views on the closure of the outdoor area and that the the owner has accidentally posted an unedited response template as a reply. I think it would be in the hotels interests to take their customers feedback a bit more seriously, as these reviews are the best insight you'll get into what your business is doing right and wrong.

Had a nice overnight stay with my partner. I upgraded our room to a superior one but it looked out onto a wall which was a bit of a shame. I think the pool and spa facilities could be upgraded, I'd also seen the photo of the outdoor jacuzzi and was really excited to use it but was told you had to pay extra for it which was a bit gutted about. Really liked the bar area and staff were very good. Quite isolated if you don't have a car but hotel staff helped us get taxis. Would return if spa area was improved. But the grounds are beautiful and decor is lovely.

Had the most disappointing afternoon tea on Saturday 3rd August 2024. No scones (despite saying there would be on the website) and when we asked the waitress said there’s no scones with afternoon tea ! Sandwiches, 1” sausage rolls and mini pork pies were fine but the sweet section was clearly bought in and defrosted resulting in the bottoms being soggy and slightly unpleasant.on the cheesecake and lemon mousse tarts. Not as advertised and not worth run out from Aberdeen.
