Stopped in here twice for food while staying in Johnshaven and the food is wow, wow, wow. Little expensive but backed up by taste so fair enough. Service was also very friendly and very fast.
Unsurprisingly lots of seafood on the menu given the location. First time round I had a beef in peppered sauce thing which was on their specials and delicious. Second day we had the festive menu and the turkey roulade was outstanding. Even the gravy was elevated to absolute perfection.
It’s the only place to eat out in town, but fortunately it’s absolutely banging. Highly recommend.

3. It can get busy at the weekend so remember and book a table 📆

NIce traditional waterfront pub atmosphere. Service excellent. Food a bit disappointing. The fish was OK but the batter was a bit greasy, and teh Chicken Kiev suffered the same fate, but worse. A bit pricey given the lacklustre quality but the menu is extensive so maybe worth another visit to try some other dishes while soaking up the atmosphere.

We came here for a meal to celebrate our engagement and had 3 courses each plus drinks. The food could not be faulted - compliments to the chef. Staff very friendly and great service. Lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Awful experience at the restaurant, cannot comment on rooms as we were not staying (thankfully)
Also cannot comment on food quality as we were ignored the entire time we were sat there. Table was booked for 7 (4 people) we were a few minutes early so sat at the table for a total of 27 minutes while other tables were cleared and cleaned and did not receive any service, no drinks order was taken and we were not even acknowledged.
It is a shame in this economy when local business are apparently struggling and yet the service is so poor we ended up having to leave. They have missed out on a substantial food and drinks order as well as our return custom .
Very disappointing, thankfully we managed to get a table at another local business the Quayside in Gordoun which I would wholeheartedly recommend

Regarding the restaurant only… A wow delicious, whole lobster feast at the Anchor as a special occasion at lunchtime. We had asked in advance, if it could be served “out of the shell”…and it was beautifully presented… quite a treat, thank you Gary. So lovely to see and experience a whole team effort from Gary and his son in the kitchen, and the serving team including Jane with her charm and attention. We had heard about the good food reputation and our meal exceeded expectations. Thank you. Always encouraging to visit a busy venue with visitors of all ages and lots of variety in the menu. We had booked for earlier in the month, however we had to postpone at quite short notice re some family stuff. The reception team cheerfully rearranged our booking and it all went very smoothly. Thank you. Our tip is… do book in advance if you can.

Very clean & tidy room though bit small, no TV first night but that may have been down to Internet outage that day

Didn't eat there but lots coming in for food so usually a good sign.
Johnshaven lovely small fishing village.
Worth a visit.
