The Black Watch Castle & Museum

Great visit to the Black Watch Museum yesterday. Arrived just in time for the guided tour with David which we really enjoyed - would definitely recommend. Informative, interesting and entertaining. Great cafe but worth booking at busy times.

Great museum and if you have an opportunity to take a tour with Rosemary I highly recommend it! Personable, and super knowledgeable she was great with our mixed group of Scots and Americans.

Exceptional tour of a really well organised and well preserved military museum. Rosemary was one of the best guides we've ever had and we have taken every possible tour over 3 continents and 7 countries. You have to do this! It's amazing!

We had a lovely time here, 1st visit! Bought 3 lovely poppy brooches for my neices, Then enjoyed lovely cinnamon and apples scones and delicious coffee in their atmospheric cafe, hubby also had chocolate cake yummy. We will go back for lunch next time. A great find! I am told lunches are busy, so may be best to book in advance of visit. The staff were all lovely and helpful too! in both departments. See you soon!

We stopped off for a quick visit here whilst on our way to the Highlands for a holiday. It's a lovely castle and grounds. There was a gentleman in a kilt to greet you, then you are free to roam the museum at your own leisure. My Granddad was in the Black Watch during WW2, so it was amazing to see some of the photographs and equipment that he would have used. I was hoping for more items in the gift shop, a regimental patch or flag would be nice. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

We recently hosted our wedding reception at the Black Watch Castle & Museum and the whole experience was wonderful. Debbie, Lindsey and the whole team worked so hard, and nothing was ever too much to ask. The venue is beautiful. The room where we had our meal was bright and airy. There was also plenty of space for the ceilidh band and dancing. The food was absolutely delicious. Many of our guests commented on the great service and how friendly and helpful all the staff were. We feel very lucky to have hosted our wedding here and we’re forever grateful to the whole team, thank you all.

I "had" to visit the Castle and Museum as a member of staff at Culloden had spotted earlier this year that I was wearing the colours of The Black Watch at that time. I didn't know so I was going to buy a new scarf. Also a friend asked me to do some research, there. Both members of staff on reception deserve a favourable mention. One asked if I wanted to leave my small bag of drinks in the "back office" while I went around the place. She, or maybe both, took the photos of me there. The other one took it on board to book a taxi from their list of local contacts, for my trip into town. It turned out to be the same firm and one of the drivers I had seen the previous day. I was picked up from the entrance to the Castle and Museum. It is customer service like that which helps improve the day even if help is not needed. I said that I wanted to do some research relating to the First World War, was then given a map and the appropriate room was indicated on that map. There is a lift, which could be most helpful on my back down. When the time came, I opted to walk down a spiral staircase rather than look for the lift. The staircase was much wider than the one I had seen the day before AND carpeted. Even the walk that I had chosen to get me to the Museum improved my sense of well being as it briefly took me alongside the river. I'll leave it to you to decide which of the two photos of me sitting down you prefer. If this suits your taste, it is a lovely place to visit. It worked well for me.

This was one of our favourite lunch stops. Unfortunately, the last couple of visits have been disappointing. Menu choice not so good. Tiny bowl of soup which was definitely well overpriced. Service was very slow . Staff are always friendly.

Fascinating and very well laid out museum about the Black Watch. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There is a bistro there as well that is open all and the food was amazing. Again the staff were very friendly. Will be back to eat at the Bistro again.

Great museum, the bistro food is really nice, stop off most days when I'm in Perth after walking my cocker around the North inch and sit and have a coffee and bite to eat outside (weather permitting).

Great experience, absolutely loved learning about something that I had never heard of, they offer guided tour too or audio can't remember decided not to take them up on that due to the time we got there but it was amazing to read most things about the black watch and seeing all the artifacts they still have to do this day, there's also a have a cafe there too, would of liked to see a few more options for souvenirs in the shop but can't fault the experience one bit

Very good being a military historian myself I enjoyed it. During the years 1940 to April 1946 my grandfather served as a Sgt in the 61st Highland Anti-Tank Regiment 241btty. His primary job was to keep enemy mechanized armoured vehicles off the infantry battalions of the 51st Highland Division. In his case his battery were assigned to 154bde which consisted of 1st /7th Black Watch and 7th Argyll and Sutherlands.

The Back Watch Castle and Museum is an enlightening and well detailed historical account of this famous Scottish regiment. Unlike other well known Castles where accounts are of all past regiments prior to the change in 2005, this Museum dedication is invaluable.

I visited the museum last week and had a fantastic time. The reception staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. We had a guided tour with a chap called Bill. He was friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. He explained the history, life of a soldier and the many battles the Black Watch have been involved in. Well worth the extra bit of cash for this. We then had a lovely meal in the Bistro. The staff there were very friendly and the food was fabulous. Thanks to everyone for making my visit memorable

We waren er voor openingstijd, dus komen niet naar binnen. Echter is de buitenkant al een plaatje om te zien, dus alleen daarvoor zou ik al even stoppen. Veel informatie is ook te vinden in de tuin eromheen.
