Das Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum befindet sich in einem historischen Gebäude aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, das ursprünglich als Tolbooth diente. Dieses Gebäude wurde 1739 von dem schottischen Architekten William Adam im Barockstil entworfen und ist heute als Kategorie-A-Bauwerk eingestuft.

Im Inneren des Museums können Besucher mehr über die Sanquhar Stricktradition erfahren, die für ihre charakteristischen zweifarbigen Muster bekannt ist. Außerdem wird die Geschichte der Bergbauindustrie in Sanquhar und Kirkconnel beleuchtet, einschließlich der Lebensbedingungen der Bergleute.

Das Museum bietet interaktive Ausstellungen, darunter eine Audiovisual-Präsentation, die einen umfassenden Einblick in die Geschichte der Region gibt. Für Familien gibt es einen speziellen Bereich mit Aktivitäten für Kinder, Quizblättern und die Möglichkeit, nach Figuren aus der Vergangenheit von Sanquhar zu suchen, die als Lego-Minifiguren nachgebildet wurden.

twicw we have been to visit and twice it has been closed. it woukd be great if the website stated closed then we would not have came.

Interesting wee museum based in a very historic building with lots to read and learn. Don't know who funds this free museum but well worth a visit.

Great little museum - lots of local objects are carefully preserved. Clearly people of this area have been industrious and entrepreneurial. Unfortunately the 8m audio-visual presentation was not available when I visited. The lady at the desk dismissed it as it was produced in 1980s. But we expect to see old materials in museum:)!

A lovely place to visit. The gentleman in the museum was very informative and helpful. The exhibits explained the local history well and there was a very informative video. Extremely interesting information about the Sanquhar pattern. I would recommend a visit to this venue for all.
