Museum | Gallarate | Lombardia | Italy
The "Premio Nazionale Arti Visive Città di Gallarate" is a prestigious Italian art prize that was established in 1949 to promote the contemporary art scene and enrich the collection of the Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Gallarate. Since its inception, the prize has supported numerous artists and contributed to the development of modern and contemporary art in Italy.
In 2024, the XXVII edition of the prize took place under the title "Hyperdesign", curated by Chiara Alessi. This exhibition focused on design projects and processes post-2000s, highlighting key themes such as sustainability, environment, safety, work, inclusivity, and social relationships. Designers, collectives, and social projects such as Formafantasma, Odoardo Fioravanti, and Fondazione Tetrabondi Onlus were involved. The exhibition provided a deep insight into current trends and challenges in the design field.
Over the years, the "Premio Nazionale Arti Visive Città di Gallarate" has evolved to incorporate various art forms such as painting, sculpture, design, drawing, and printmaking. The continuous support and collection of artworks have helped MA*GA to now encompass over 5000 works and become one of the most significant museums of modern and contemporary art in Italy.
The history of the prize and the museum reflects the development of the Italian art scene, emphasizing the importance of institutions dedicated to promoting and preserving contemporary art. Through regular exhibitions and collection activities, MA*GA remains a vibrant center for art and culture in the region.
