È un castello originario del XIV Secolo, l'unico sopravvissuto dei tre esistenti un tempo a Mede. Appartenne ai Sangiuliani nel Settecento, successivamente passò di proprietà numerose volte, fino a quando, nel 1996, il Comune di Mede lo acquistò per renderlo la sede della Biblioteca Comunale e dei Musei Civici, funzione che svolge tuttora. A livello architettonico è impossibile scorgere la fisionomia dell'originario castello medievale: troppe le modificazioni subite nel corso dei secoli. La loggetta d'ingresso e la torretta a merlatura ghibellina sono il lascito dell' ultima grande ristrutturazione, avvenuta negli anni Venti del XX Secolo.
