Ecomuseum of Parabiago Landscape
Museum | Parabiago | Lombardia | Italy
The "Ecomuseo del Paesaggio di Parabiago" is an Ecomuseum in the province of Milan, founded in 2008 and recognized by the Lombardy region.
It was established as part of the activities of the local Agenda 21 of Parabiago, a municipality located approximately 25 km northwest of Milan. The Ecomuseum covers the entire municipal area of Parabiago as its territory and narrates the development and transformations that the landscape has undergone over time, highlighting the relationships between past and present, as well as between the territory and the community that has inhabited it for centuries.
Goals and activities:
The Ecomuseum is a cultural institution aimed at helping the residents of Parabiago and visitors appreciate, recognize, and understand the landscape in order to care for and improve it. It promotes the active involvement of the community and has evolved into a pact where the community commits to working together for the care of the area.
Cultural routes:
The Ecomuseum has created some cultural routes to rediscover the heritage that characterizes the town of Parabiago. These include not only the natural and agricultural landscape – as the municipality is located between the parks of Roccolo and dei Mulini – but also the urban landscape, which makes up about 50% of the municipal area, with a focus on what has been achieved by the people who inhabit and have shaped this environment over time.
Significance:
The Ecomuseum of the Landscape of Parabiago is a significant place to experience and appreciate the cultural heritage and history of the region. It provides a comprehensive view of the development of the landscape and promotes awareness of the importance of the environment and community in shaping the territory.
