The Palazzo Baronale in Ossi, a picturesque village in the province of Sassari in Sardinia, is a historic building dating back to the 17th century and now serving as a cultural center. Originally built as the residence of the Barons of Ossi, the palace reflects the architectural features of the time and is a significant testimony to Sardinian history.
History and Architecture
The Palazzo Baronale was likely built in the first half of the 17th century and is the oldest and most valuable building in Ossi. It is believed that the Guyò family, the Barons of Ossi, were originally the owners of the palace. After the death of Don Giovanni Guyò in 1690 without heirs, the palace passed into the possession of the Manca – Amat di Sassari family. A coat of arms from 1749 above the main entrance displays the emblem of the Piras family of Ossi and bears the inscription: "Esta obra hizo/el n.d. Miguel Piras A. 1749". In the late 19th century, the palace passed into the ownership of the parish of Ossi and was later acquired by the municipality. Today, it houses the ethnographic museum of the municipality and serves as a venue for cultural activities.

The ethnographic museum in the Palazzo Baronale spans three floors and reconstructs various rural environments of the past century. The ground floor displays tools and equipment used by our grandparents for hard work in the fields or in artisan workshops. The first floor features reconstructed rooms such as a kitchen, bedroom, and study, illustrating the daily life of the rural population. The second floor houses an archaeological collection providing insights into the region's history.
