Gorfigliano, a picturesque village in Tuscany, is home to the Museum of Identity of Alta Garfagnana "Olimpio Cammelli", which provides a deep insight into the local history and culture. The museum is located in the restored Chiesa Vecchia di Gorfigliano and was opened on May 16, 2009.

Collections and Exhibitions

The museum presents over 3,000 objects documenting the traditional life and crafts of the region. The exhibitions include:

Historical Reconstruction of Gorfigliano: One room showcases the development of the village before and after 1900, particularly in relation to the beginning of marble quarrying.

Tools of the Trade: Collections of work tools from various crafts such as marble quarrying, blacksmithing, agriculture, sheep farming, shoemaking, and wood processing.

Carpentry: A special collection documenting the craft of the carpenter, complemented by a library with over 500 volumes related to the region.

Special Features

The museum is located on Colle di Casa, the hill where the castle and historical village of Gorfigliano once stood. The restored church and adjacent museum provide an authentic insight into the history and culture of Alta Garfagnana.

Visitor Information

The museum is open daily from June 1 to September 30 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. From October 1 to May 31, it is open by appointment. For more information or to arrange a visit, you can contact the cultural association "Paese Vecchio di Gorfigliano".
