Over the last six years we have stayed one night in January on five occasions. Since it changed hands the choice at breakfast isn't as good but having said that it is still good. We stayed in room 16 and our bed was very comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. We certainly have no complaints about our room. When I tried to book a table for dinner I was told the kitchen was closed due to a problem but this was repaired in time for breakfast!!!! From reading other reviews this seems to be a recurring problem. Based on the number of cars in the car park overnight there were very few guests staying at the hotel on Friday 31 January. We would certainly stay at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel again without hesitation.

Very disappointed, the hotel is very run down and grubby. Having lived in March in the past I know some of the hotels history, and I only used it because it was convenient, but I wish I hadn't it was worse than I ever remembered it to be, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, it seems to mainly be used by contractors/workmen now and that's about the level that it has degraded to On entering the foyer the carpets were very stained, the man on reception was wearing a coat, which rang alarm bells as to how cold the hotel might be! Our room was very cold and we couldn't get the heating to work at all, now we don't like a room to be too hot, but this was too cold, ridiculous. The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable, and there was a loud humming sound that seemed to reverberate around the whole room, we didn't get a wink of sleep all night because of this. The bathroom was very grubby, stained toilet bowl, cracked sink, stains around the bath taps and shower screen. Curtains only just fit the windows leaving annoying gaps each side. The hairdryer was missing, I assume stolen? Because the nozzle for the dryer was still there, but not the actual machine! Breakfast was very poor quality too thermos flasks for the tea and coffee is not acceptable! I think it was vastly overpriced for the quality of the accommodation and wouldn't recommend it to anyone to stay in.

The rooms are outdated, nothing has been cleaned and the descriptions are inaccurate. The description said my room was soundproof but I could clearly hear the TV in the connecting room next door. The bathroom pooled water every time I had a shower even after being extremely careful not to get any on the floor (I suspect a leak). The floors appears to have not been vacuumed since the hotel opened. The room said a bottle of water was given free. No water was found. The spoons had stains on them so it shows how much attention they give to hygiene. The shower was caked with limescale however after asking for a bottle of limescale remover this was rectified. I shouldn't have to tell you how to do basic cleaning.

Please read this review and take note.... The Oliver Cromwell Hotel in March is probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at.... The room we stayed in was nothing less than disgusting.. There was a sign in the bathroom advising you to use the rubber bath mat provided.. we looked at the rubber mat to find it covered in black mould .. even the sign had mould on it... There was also mould round the edge of the bath and on the tile grout... The bathroom had a extractor fan which is a requirement when there is no window to open for aerating the room.. unfortunately the extractor fan didn't work.. My wife wanted to use the hairdryer but unfortunately that didn't work... even if it had worked there was no mirror in the bedroom to use it... The room was extremely shabby and smelt damp ... despite all of this we had no choice but to grin and bare it as they were fully booked and no other rooms to move to... I've complained to the hotel manager and the receptionist at the time plus written a email to complain.. I had no response from the email so had to phone them to express my disgust and disappointment in the room and hotel professionalism or lack of.. All in all I would give this hotel a wide birth... No real apology and no offer of any refund...

We were disappointed with the state of the bathroom, dirty, mouldy & shabby, we wouldn’t use it.I have emailed the hotel but no reply In contrast asked for a travel cot that looked brand new. Also told they don’t have a highchair.

Please don't be fooled by the photographs or reviews. This was probably that hotel 10 to 15 years ago . The pool is empty and has been for years , the gym I don't know . The kitchen appears to close willy nilly at the weekends , not sure about midweek . Rooms tired , a little grubby , bed comfy , bath big , hot water . No shower gel in my room , behind taps filthy . At best, it is adequate for contractors. Possibly the worst venue I've stayed in for many years . Upkeep of grounds negligent tho the staff were lovely . This could be such a lovely venue but alas it wasn't. 👎

My husband stayed here for a fishing weekend. He left his reading glasses (which were new) and his electric razor. I rang the hotel and explained what had happened, they couldn't have been more helpfull. They packaged the items up and posted them back to us. I do think they went above and beyond and I am very grateful, wonderfull service!!

Appalling, broken bed broken toilet seat, dirty floor. Tv not working bad service. Breakfast not fit to eat. Was booked in for 2 nights but had to leave after q, refused to refund money will be taking this further.

Absolutely disgusting hotel to put it nicely . Water coming up through the floorboards , water stains on the ceiling, bathroom absolutely filthy. Only booked 1 night and didn’t stay due to bed bugs . Staff are rude and wasn’t even surprised by the bed bugs they also refused to refund , joke of a hotel.

It was OK for the few days we were there. A bit overpriced for what was on offer and not many other guests. The music in the restaurant was too loud and the grubby fairy lights strewn around looked like they were left over from Xmas.

Avoid in the winter. Heater not working. Absolutely freezing room. Only the air conditioning was running, but the ancient system took hours to warm up the room. The shower genuinely takes 5mins to heat up. The bathroom heater doesn’t work. Also the bathroom is straight out of 1920s. Place was absolutely filthy. The gym is in an external building accessible only from the outside. Also cold. Only saving grace is the staff are lovely.

While staff were kindly and helpful there were a number of negatives. I found the shower difficult to adjust to a reasonable temperature. Breakfast took a while to prepare as coffee was not hot and some items had to be reordered.

Nice gaff, great location for a walk into March. Some staff were nice and friendly, some grumpy and could do with a smile. Rooms lovely and spacious

I didn't actually stay here - I was staying with a relative to attend a funeral and my grown up children stayed here and I did see the rooms. Initially the heating was difficult to work, but both eventually sorted it and slept well. One of the bedrooms looked as though they'd had a revamp and redecoration, the other must be on the list to do but both rooms were clean and spacious.

Stayed xmas night as round the corner from where we had xmas day. Bed was comfy and place was quite but could have run the hoover round before we stayed and the bath panel was battered. Breakfast was really nice and was a buffett aswell so that was a result

This is a 3 star hotel and if judged on that , it's very good .breakfast was good only cold . Staff very helpful and friendly. Bed and sheet clean. Good night's sleep . Value for money , very good . Will be back.
