Enjoyed a lovely two night stay. The weather was freezing, thankfully the hotel was snug and warm. There was a beautiful open fire in the lounge and dinner and breakfast were delicious.

Took my wife here for evening meal over Christmas and was really looking forward to it as I had heard a number of good reviews from people who had been. Checked the website and the place looked great and food looked well presented. Unfortunately after going on the day after Boxing Day I wasn’t left with the same rave reviews I’m sorry to say. I thought the evening menu was short with not a lot to choose from, especially in the Mains, wine list had a very limited choice and really the food, although presented in an ok kind of way, I did look as though it was presented on a tin tea tray was only really average… nice but average. I think the venue is more geared towards parties and weddings as I thought the “restaurant” was limited in size but also “soulless”. We left, feeling a little underwhelmed, sorry. Reviewed the Upper House as a 3 star rating on our visit which is a little low, possibly it’s a 3.5 but it left us feeling that we have had better elsewhere and would probably not automatically jump to this venue in the future for a meal out. Price for 2 was just over £100 which included a couple of glasses of wine, I’d need to think longer if we had had good value for the cost. Apologies for the review not being better. Beautiful Country Hotel. Dined here several times, the last being couple of weeks ago for dinner - very enjoyable and very competitively priced festive menu. Went today for Christmas Eve Breakfast. The food was good and again excellent value. Being critical I feel the restaurant staff should all have long hair tied back and also I feel trainers and very casual clothing are not appropriate. There needs to be a standard. I also have to add that everytime I visit here there is always a lack of a warm welcome, an acknowledgement on arrival would be nice.

Another wonderful stay at the fabulous hotel.Welcomed on arrival and luggage taken to our beautifully appointed room. Very attentive staff. Delicious breakfast with great choice. Will look forward to our next stay. Close to venue we were going to in the evening.

A proper hotel! I personally do not like (too many) carpets in a room, however, this hotel is a very much well taken care of place! Very cosy lounge to relax and unwind, if you are lucky, you will meet the house cat. Unfortunately, no hair dryer in the room or I could not find it. Breakfast a-la-carte was delicious - eggs benedict! I would definitely come back. Card payments are, of course, possible and parking space free of charge is also available.

What a lovely venue. So many little rooms and lovely features. We had afternoon tea and I was so impressed with the China. We were spoilt for choice and so many cakes come home in a box. Whilst we were there we watched other having food from the day menu which looked impressive. We will be returning. Lovely food, great staff, magical Christmas decor

We booked a private room for my 60th birthday for family and close friends. We waited half an hour for coffee on arrival, and this continued throughout the entire meal. My special birthday celebration ruined by the slow service. We waited for a starter, 15 minutes after everyone else, we waited for a main, 15 minutes after everyone else, we waited for wine and other drinks at least half an hour. The meals were poor and when we asked for more potatoes we were told there would be an extra charge, yet the extra veg came ..... 3 enormous bowls of Brussel sprouts!! We waited that long for the desserts the bill came before they did!!! We did complain and had a small reduction to the bill. Unfortunately we will not return. I wanted to remember my 60th celebration with fondness. I can only say that we would not recommend this place for any celebration!!!

Excellent overnight stop, lovely dinner and breakfast. Our room was quite small but it was only for sleeping in. Plenty of hot water in the morning.

Excellent hotel in all respects giving good traditional value and service.Our room was on the small size ( our choice ! ) but this was more than compensated by the excellent food choice and quality. Will be going again as this will be our base during our trips to visit our elderly aunt.

Helpfull and friendly staff. We found them very attentive with being intrusive. The restaurant menu had a good choice and the quality of the food was excellent. My particular choice was Monkfish which was the best I had ever had. We had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Will definitely be revisiting.

Went for a meal a couple of weeks ago, let them know a week prior when I booked about allergies. Table was not ready when we got there (complimentary drink given for this inconvenience) orederd food and it came with my allergen all over it, sent this back and the waitress (wearing blue club style dress, laddered black tights and scruffy white trainers) had no clue about my allergy so went to check on the booking, it was there, kitchen not prepared for this inconvenience and so all I was able to order was the expensive steak that came with a tiny bowl of chips, a freezing cold mushroom and most of the steak was left on the plate due to all the rock hard grissle running through it (steak was not big enough for the price in the first place). Told staff about this issue, response was "we will inform the kitchen" and walked away. Not a single waitress asked us if we wanted any more drinks and were avoiding our table (even before we complained about awful food) got the bill and told them we were not happy to pay the amount shown as we were leaving hungry and thirsty, they took a small percentage off the bill and that was that. Would not go back, they were not busy enough for this kind of poor service and to not be prepared for allergies is disgraceful.

We needed a place to break our journey down from Arbroath and the Upper House was the limit of our driving range. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and then a very comfortable night's sleep. A good breakfast was included in the very reasonable room rate. .

I stayed there on Friday and I am sorry the food in the evening was not good if you were hungry, it was also Luke warm and for the price we paid for it was shocking.

We stayed at The Upper House for our 20th wedding anniversary and really, really enjoyed the experience. The Bridgwater Room felt just right - a lovely view, comfortable and cosy bed, a modern bathroom and all in-keeping with the style of the house. The service was excellent - polite, attentive and helpful whilst being relaxed. The food (we had a sandwich lunch and a breakfast) was fresh and tasty. The location is splendid and close to the town and has some beautiful walks right on the doorstep. Highly recommended!

Lovely meal on Monday 9th Dec. Dining room decorated well and huge Xmas tree in reception. Staff very pleasant.

Before this visit I had never heard of The Upper House. The service I received was fantastic, the staff were amazing. I would highly recommend The Upper House

Use this place quite often for coffee and cake or dining. Very good. Cannot comment on the rooms as we live nearby and have never stayed there but would assume they are of the same high standard as the rest of the venue.

My second time here. Fantastic service, room was outstanding, I had the disabled adaptation and it was perfect. Breakfast was good (had better and worse) but on the whole a great stay
