A real gem of a country house hotel on the edge of the Cairngorms, excellent on all counts, delightful gardens both ornamental and horticultural, gourmet dinners and breakfasts, even optional box lunches to take in the hike. Well stocked bar and knowledgeable staff. Health club too. Opportunities for country walks or runs.

A fantastic facility open to non members. We were in the area on a mountain bike holiday and fancied a swim and spa . We were over the moon to find this awesome facility just up the road from the Tarland Bike trails. A lovely warm pool , with a great jacuzzi, steam room and sauna a perfect way to end a days biking. The gym is also included in the price. The facilities were immaculately clean and the staff are lovely . We definitely will be back when we visit the area again !

Stunning location with gorgeous views across the countryside and the soundtrack of sheep. Beautiful gardens. Staff all extremely professional and polite. Excellent breakfast service. Proximity to hikes, castles, and pretty towns. Self-catering accommodation could use some deep cleaning and maintenance: patches of damp on ceilings and walls, cobwebs near doors and skylights, scratched and dinged walls (even some small holes in places), and some carpeting that could use steam cleaning or replacement. Nonetheless, very comfortable and everything worked, but just surprised to see those issues.

Wonderful hotel. Perfect setting in beautiful gardens with superbe scenery all around. We walked to Pressendyne on a waymarked path maintained and developed by the MacRobert Trust, the hotel founders. Interesting family history with thoughtful photos and artefacts on display around the hotel. Food was fantastic. Rooms were excellent. Recommended.

Use the gym facilities regularly, very nice facilities and equipment for a reasonable price. My only suggestion would be to improve the booking system for the pool. Currently involves phoning or emailing to book a slot and quite often the phone is not answered and email responses are slow. The main hotel and restaurant are really nice.

Lovely hotel and estate in the countryside near Cairngorms National Park. The hotel’s service was excellent and food top notch. On beautiful grounds, it is an intimate size and has good proximity to activities (although the estate is so nice too!).

Went for nice family dinner out at this stunning venue- would definitely recommend. The food was excellent, with a great selection of meat (mostly game) and fresh fish. The muse bouche was a tomato based soup the day we went which was great too. After dinner we retired to the bar where we had a cocktail- the espresso martini is delicious. The staff in general were great- particularly the younger waiting staff at dinner. What makes this a 4 instead of 5 star was how we were initially greeted- instead of a warm welcome (expected when paying the prices that Douneside charge). We were told we could have a drink before our dinner reservation in the bar, 5minutes later the staff member then came over and said we had to order food immediately because we were late for our reservation, which was confusing given we had asked if we had time for a drink before. This staff member then proceeded to rock back and forth like a child on his feet whilst waiting for us to order as if to try hurry us. We continued to have poor treatment from this particular staff member throughout the night. Happy to get in touch with Douneside directly if interested, as it really put a downer on what was otherwise an excellent evening in a beautiful venue.

This is an experienced not to be missed. Former home of the MacRobert family now a 13 room hotel on the edge of Tarland. Dinner bed and breakfast available, and lunch if required. Many walks around the area direct from the hotel with sites of historical interest. Non profit making run hotel will any surplus monies made given to the MacRobert Trust for charitable works.

We had lunch on a Friday in December, the festive menu. It was all exquisitely prepared and presented, with attentive service. Just excellent.
