Museum | Clauzetto | Friuli-Venezia Giulia | Italy
The "Museo della Grotta" in Clauzetto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, is an archaeological museum dedicated to the prehistoric use of caves in the Altopiano di Pradis. It was opened in 2001 and showcases findings from various prehistoric epochs discovered in the caves of the surrounding area.
The exhibition starts with a reconstruction of the cave bear, whose remains were found in the caves of Altopiano di Pradis. Additionally, archaeological artifacts such as stone tools, ceramic fragments, and bronze bracelets are displayed, indicating human activities dating back around 40,000 years. These findings come from the Grotta del Rio Secco, one of the most significant caves in the area.
Furthermore, remains of animals such as deer, marmot, and badger are presented, providing insight into the wildlife of the time. The exhibition also includes an extensive collection of minerals from Italian sources and fossils from the region, some of which are of particular paleontological significance.
The museum is part of the Ecomuseo Regionale delle Dolomiti Friulane "Lis Aganis" and is dedicated to education and public outreach, offering workshops and events on the topic of prehistory.
