Museum | Ivrea | Piemonte | Italy

The "Museum of Modern Architecture" in Ivrea, Piedmont, Italy, is known as the "Museo a Cielo Aperto dell'Architettura Moderna" and represents a unique open-air museum dedicated to the modern architecture of the Olivetti era. Ivrea was shaped in the 20th century by the Olivetti group, which, under the leadership of Adriano Olivetti, developed an innovative vision for industrial architecture and urban design.

The MAAM extends along a roughly 2 kilometer route along Via Jervis and surrounding areas, encompassing some of the most representative buildings of the Olivetti era. These include the ICO workshops, which impress with their large glass facade and the use of steel and glass, considered pioneers of modern industrial buildings. Another notable building is the residential complex "Talponia", partially underground and harmoniously blending into the natural environment.

The architecture in Ivrea reflects Adriano Olivetti's philosophy, which emphasized the well-being of workers and sought to harmonize industry, housing, and public spaces. This approach led to a series of buildings that are both functional and aesthetically appealing, emphasizing the company's social responsibility.

In 2018, the industrial city of Ivrea was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, highlighting the significance of Olivetti's architecture and urban planning. The MAAM offers visitors the opportunity to experience this unique collection of modern architecture in the open air and learn more about the history and influence of the Olivetti group on the city and 20th century architecture.
