Graniti Murales Jenn Brisson
Museum | Graniti | Sicily | Italy
The "Graniti Murales" is a vibrant open-air museum in the Sicilian village of Graniti, enriched since 2017 by artists from around the world with murals. This project was initiated by Salvatore Romano and Karin Maier to promote local culture and breathe new life into Graniti through art and creativity.
In November 2017, Canadian artist Jenn Brisson participated in this project and created the mural "Shifting and Revealing". This work represents a kind of self-portrait and includes a series of masks representing local animals she encountered in Graniti. The masks are lined up on a long red ribbon held by two hummingbirds symbolizing Vancouver. Accompanying her mural, Brisson wrote the poem "Shifting and Revealing", reflecting her experiences and impressions during her stay in Graniti.
Jenn Brisson began her artistic career as an animator in the animation industry and evolved over the years into a versatile painter, illustrator, and internationally recognized muralist. Her style is characterized by figurative representations, often featuring mischievous, almost human-like beings living in vibrant and textured worlds with flora and fauna. She frequently uses mixed media in her backgrounds, such as spray paint, stencils, splatters, and torn paper, resulting in a subtle juxtaposition between chaotic backgrounds and the calm presence of her characters.
The "Graniti Murales" project has transformed Graniti into an "open-air museum", inviting international artists annually to enrich the streets of the village with their unique murals. This initiative promotes cultural exchange and enriches village life through art and creativity.
