The Graniti Murales project in Graniti, Sicily, has transformed the small village into a vibrant open-air museum. Since 2017, artists from around the world have created over 40 murals on the facades of buildings, enriching the cultural heritage of the area and filling the streets with vibrant colors and stories.
One outstanding work within this project is the mural "Interferenza," created by Norwegian artists Torunn Skjelland and Vigdis Fjellheim in May 2016. This mural addresses the current and future challenges related to migration and global climate change, forcing people to flee and move. The composition consists of a variety of motifs that interact in different ways, aiming to provoke intentional irritation and curiosity in the viewer.
Torunn Skjelland is a Norwegian artist whose work focuses on painting, both as an individual practice and in collaboration. She explores painting in a spatial context, particularly in large-scale works where color is central. Her works are often inspired by photographic elements and question established aesthetic norms.
Vigdis Fjellheim, also from Norway, is known for her unique approach to art. Her creative practice is based on series of paintings and drawings inspired by her personal archives and found photographs. She engages with themes such as documentation, classification, mapping, systematization, and archiving.
