Museo del Risorgimento

Museum | Lucca | Tuscany | Italy

The "Museo del Risorgimento" in Lucca is a significant museum that documents the history of Italian unification in the 19th century. It is located in the Palazzo Ducale and presents an extensive collection of artifacts that illustrate the participation of the Lucchese community in the Risorgimento.

Collections and Exhibitions

The exhibitions include a variety of objects, including paintings, prints, weapons, memorabilia, uniforms, and everyday items. These exhibits tell the stories of the "fathers of the homeland" and local figures such as Antonio Mordini, Tito Strocchi, Luisa Amalia Paladini, and Cleobulina Cotenna. The latter highlight the valuable contribution of women to the national dream of Italian unity.

A timeline in the exhibition area guides visitors through the key dates, locations, and figures of the Risorgimento.

Multimedia Experiences

The museum offers an immersive experience in a multimedia space where the Risorgimento is told through the voices of fictional characters:

Luigi: A volunteer soldier.

Maria: His partner and a keen advocate for the "women's question," which remains unresolved after the formation of the nation-state.

A young patriot: Tasked with sketching out the "future" Italy.

Educational Offerings

The museum has an educational area that serves as an ideal space for play, sparking curiosity, and deepening knowledge of the history and origins of the Italian unified state.

The "Museo del Risorgimento" in Lucca provides a profound insight into the history of Italian unification and the role of the Lucca region in this significant historical process.

Great museum, very interesting! Lots of information in a small space. We were the only visitors and the docent was happy to stay with us and answer any questions. Also free! Incredible.
