The Rectory couldn't be more lovely. It deserves five stars for everything. I can't say enough about the beautiful rooms and the charming staff.

Tried to book a small intimate wedding lunch for 10 people, turned away because we aren't allowed to wear wedding attire ... "due to us being a small hotel and the glasshouse being accessible by the main restaurant where there will be other guests enjoying their own dining experience" Please tell me how dressing smartly would negatively impacts other guests dining experience?? You allow birthdays and other celebrations where people are possibly dressed smartly ...

Stunning place. The food was of such high standards, yet very affordable. It’s one of our favourite places in Wiltshire. Second time here, and definitely not the last.

We went here to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. We booked one of the bigger rooms and had dinner in the hotel. The hotel is in a quiet location in a small village about 20 mins from Cirencester and 15 mins from Malmesbury. It's an attractive building set in lovely grounds, which contains an outdoor pool. The property and the grounds are obviously well maintained. The food was very good. Dinner was well prepared and service in the orangery dinning room was friendly and attentive. Similarly, the cooked breakfast was very enjoyable but the overall breakfast selection was probably no more than you'd find in a good inn with rooms. The bar is a cosy place to enjoy a drink and the selection of wines was reasonably priced for a place like this. TBH, the room was a little disappointing. Certainly it was a good size, but the space hadn't been capitalised upon. A roll top bath in the bedroom is a thing which some people really like, but there was no wardrobe and no comfortable chair in the room. So personally I'd sacrifice the bath for better use of space. Don't get me wrong, I knew it had the bath when I booked, I just didn't know it was missing a wardrobe and somewhere to sit and relax. That said, the bathroom itself was not without issues. The shower was very small and had a rainforest shower head. Unfortunately, it had no closing door, so the wooden floor got pretty wet every time it was used. Staff were all very friendly and attentive and certainly made us feel welcomed and well looked after. So how would I summarise? Actually, it's not that easy. I think if we'd just come for dinner we'd have been perfectly happy. However, we live quite close by and decided to stay as a birthday treat and I found the accommodation a bit below the standard I would expect at this price point. Maybe I'm being too picky? Maybe if you live in a city and are looking for a country house hotel you would see more quirkiness than shortfall? Because our room was definitely not bad, but to me, a little bit of redesign would pay huge dividends. The Rectory has many things going in it's favour; it's an attractive building, with beautiful grounds in a quiet village. Food, service etc. are very good. We just found our room, unexpectedly, a slight let down.

I've eaten here on a few occasions over the years, and on each occasion the staff have been very friendly and helpful. However, on a visit in September 2024 we found that: The monkfish was overcooked and rubbery, while the rice was tepid and virtually tasteless; The single slice of roast beef was as tough as old boots and could probably have run out the door, and the accompanying roast potatoes tasted as if they'd been prepared the day before and re-heated. Hopefully the chef was just having a bad day, but my suspicion is that culinary expertise has left the building. (Finally, beware of a 10% service charge being added without prior notice.)

Popped in for a drink, ended up staying for dinner. Staff were amazing and managed to fit us in without a reservation. 3 of us ate and wow they have amazing chef's. Overall a very positive experience. Really worth a visit

We had lovely stay here. The staff were always helpful and even asked before we got there if we wanted a reservation at their sister pub, useful as the village doesn’t have many options. We’ll be back!

Sunday Lunch......Lovely place, warm welcome on reception, food good, however on this our first visit the service was very disappointing. We will try it again in the hope the service will meet our expectations.

Visited for a Saturday lunch and was not disappointed. The place itself is super tranquil. Really beautiful old building with loads of places to sit and eat/drink. We sat in the orangery which I’d defs recommend. Food was insane. We started with courgettes, meatball, and the turbot terrine which was all delicious. And good portion sizes. Then treated ourselves to a lobster main. Washed down with a white soave wine. Very norty. Staff were really friendly and had a nice little wander round afterwards - gardens then the adjoining church. Smashing stuff all round.

We stayed three nights at the Rectory and would come back in a heartbeat. Most of the clientele seemed to be British couples on holiday, but it was a great spot for our girls trip, too. The Rectory served as an excellent home base for our driving around the Cotswolds. The vibes here are excellent. It’s quiet, but the pool, study, gardens, as well as the pub across the road, provide lots of space to spread out and take advantage of. The cocktail and wine lists are lovely, and the bartenders are very friendly. The restaurant is out of this world. One of us had pasta, the other bream, and we both loved it. Our room was at the top of the hotel, and our only complaint was that there was no fan on very hot days, which would have been a real relief. To be fair, though, we didn’t bother to ask if they happened to have one. Nevertheless, five stars.

Had a fabulous lunch in this quintessentially British manor. A sunny afternoon in the garden with excellent food, wine and atmosphere. I couldn't recommend it enough. Loved it!

Stayed overnight for a beautiful wedding. Staff could not do enough for us all. Bedroom was so beautiful, quirky features (roll top bath in the room), sumptuous bathing products, special selection of teas and coffee, fabulously comfortable bed, amazing views (room 9). We did have an amusing gurgle from the bath at the most unexpected moments, but honestly, in a boutique hotel in a stunning setting, it's really OK!

We went for lunch only and the restaurant was fantastic. Delicious food, lovely service and a beautiful setting. We had a look at the bedrooms too as we would like to come back and stay and they are all lovely too. We will definitely be back! Thank you

A very welcoming home from home. A really lovely, relaxing couple of days in beautiful countryside. A great base to do a bit of exploring in the Cotswold, but would be equally as happy just to enjoy the lovely gardens, fab bar and library room. One of those places you are sad to leave. Special thanks to Flossie and the team.

Saturday lunch Hotel reception was busy and she did not see interested in welcoming us, so we went straight looking for the restaurant wondering around the little rooms and admiring the beautiful deco. Finally a lady took our names and show us to our table, from then forward all went to perfection. Great attentive staff, food was divine and the atmosphere in the conservatory was inviting. We had the set lunch menu for 36£ each plus the drinks. I think was well worth it and will definitely come to stay. The place is beautiful and perfect also to celebrate special birthdays. A huge compliment to the chefs. From the fries oyster to the fish and wnsinf in the chocolate pudding all was full of flavour 5*

A decent birthday dinner for a friend, the food was good, not amazing, especially for the prices. Brill tartare starter was ok, a little unseasoned but with a lovely tasty egg mayo with tarragon. Main of Lamb rack was ok, the piece of shoulder meat was delicious but tiny, a side of potato cake was delicious. Blood orange posset was ok, not overly tasty. Service was ok but they seemed to struggle with a large group, booked well in advance

I honestly am not usually a difficult customer however I am forced to write this negative review. What could have been a nice stay was ruined by the fact that we had no hot water for a whole weekend. While I understand this is out of the control of the hotel staff, to be offered a £50 refund when we have spent £700 at the hotel is insulting. I wish I could recommend this place but I really can’t with customer service like that. Hot water is a basic amenity and certainly what would be expected in a luxury hotel. We did not feel at all luxurious when we couldn’t wash for a whole weekend! We were only offered a refund after having to really ask for one which was embarrassing and awkward. Really disappointed after saving for a long time to come and visit this hotel. I’d recommend going elsewhere.

Woeful customer service following no hot water. The Rectory is a lovely hotel. That is until things go wrong. Booked a room with roll top bath £300 - Arrive to no hot water (and no bath) limited hot water the following morning. Was offered £90 as compensation. Sadly the experience was completely ruined. After all this hotel sells experience rather than just rooms. Im not sure the girl on the front desk really understood that.

Went here for drinks post late lunch in The Potting Shed. Loved the theatre of the cocktail making. I had a couple of espresso martinis to wake me up. Best ever. Decor and ambience perfect for a Cotswold experience. Complimentary old fashioned walnuts that needed cracking! Such fun! 🤩

Visited on a Saturday evening and was welcomed by -no one- at reception. Made our way through to a full bar and lounge. Went back to the reception sofa area where we were not so warmly welcomed by a senior member of the restaurant team. Awkward waiters delivered tasty cocktails. Service in the restaurant was slow. Dishes were good. We were left waiting 30 mins for our desserts and had to call for service many times. We’ve been coming here for a few years but sadly I felt that was the last time. The premium experience is just not in this places grasp anymore.

This is our favourite restaurant in the region. Yet again all three courses were excellent. The chef seems to work wonders with ingredients. Service was good. The glasshouse dining area is comfortable, light and airy with a nice view of the gardens.

Stayed in The Rectory in mid-September and loved the experience! Our room was on the first floor and had a large comfortable bed, lovely bathtub and great furnishings. The only downside was the fact that our room overlooked the bins, which was quite loud in the morning. We stayed with our dog (£15 surcharge), she got her own bed and they prepared a separate breakfast room for us, as dogs were not allowed in the restaurant. We especially enjoyed the quiet gardens and the heated pool.
