The Museo Archeologico di Atri is located in one of the most important neoclassical buildings in the city, the Palazzo De Galitiis – De Albentiis – Tascini, built at the end of the 18th century. The museum was founded in 1912 and houses an extensive collection of artifacts that document the history and culture of the Abruzzo region from prehistoric times to the Roman era.

Collections and exhibitions:

First Hall – Vincenzo Rosati Collection: This hall is dedicated to engineer Vincenzo Rosati, who led archaeological excavations in the vicinity of Atri at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The exhibition includes a variety of objects such as ariballos, lagynos, kantharoi, balsamari, as well as jewelry and weapons from the region.

Second Hall – Prehistoric Department: Here, reproductions of tools, hunting equipment, and ceramics from early human settlements in the Abruzzo area are presented. The exhibits range from the Paleolithic to the early Iron Age and come from the excavations at Colle Maralto.

Third Hall – Protohistoric Department and Eduardo Brizio Collection: This hall displays two fully preserved graves from the early 20th century as well as burial offerings from the 6th century BC. The finds come from the necropolises of Colle della Giustizia and Pretara and were excavated under the direction of Eduardo Brizio.
