The Museo della Farmacia Picciòla in Vercelli is a private museum that documents the development of pharmacy over two centuries. It was opened in 2014 and is the first private pharmacy museum in Italy accessible to the public.
Collections and Exhibitions
The museum spans six exhibition rooms furnished with furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. The collection includes over 2,000 objects, such as:
- Scales and marble mortars in various sizes
- Alembics
- Vases and other historical pharmaceutical devices
A special highlight is a large crocodile hanging from the ceiling in the room designed as a laboratory.
In addition, over 1,000 items and historical documents are displayed, including 800 scientific books and 400 literary works.
Current Developments
In June 2024, a new section of the museum was inaugurated, expanding the collection and providing visitors with an even more comprehensive insight into the history of pharmacy.
