History and Development
The origins of the museum date back to the late 19th century, when artworks from local churches were collected between 1868 and 1888 to form a collection. These works, both sacred and secular in nature, laid the foundation for what later became a significant cultural institution in Teramo. Initially, these works were housed in a nearby building, but the discovery of Roman artifacts in the area led to a restructuring of the exhibitions. Eventually, the paintings found their permanent home in the current museum building, which served as the courthouse of Teramo until the 1950s.

The museum houses an impressive collection of artworks ranging from the 15th to the late 19th century. The exhibition spaces are organized thematically and chronologically to provide visitors with a clear overview of the development of art in the region.

One such project is "La Pinacoteca si racconta," which conveys the history and significance of the exhibited works through narratives and audiovisual elements. In addition, the project "La Pinacoteca si ascolta" has been launched, presenting specially composed music pieces to selected artworks to enhance the emotional impact of the art.
