The Parco della Scienza in Teramo, Abruzzo, is an interactive science museum that was opened in 2008. It is located in the Gammarana district and was designed by the three Abruzzo universities to promote education and research in the fields of physics, astrophysics, and engineering.
Facilities and offerings:
Galileium: An interactive museum for physics and astrophysics, which is under the direction of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics and the National Institute for Astrophysics. It is connected to the Collurania Astronomical Observatory and offers exhibitions and activities that deepen understanding of physical and astronomical phenomena.
Ludoteca tecnico-scientifica: A space focused on technical and scientific education for children and teenagers. Various workshops and activities are offered here to impart knowledge in the areas of technology and science in a playful way.
Auditorium: An event space used for conferences, seminars, and cultural events. The auditorium is managed by the Municipality of Teramo and serves as a center for scientific and cultural events.
Art and culture:
The Parco della Scienza displays works by the Teramo artist Italo Rodomonti, known for his contributions to Space Art. These artworks complement the scientific environment and provide visitors with an aesthetic dimension.
Current use:
Following the earthquake of 2016, cultural activities at the Parco della Scienza were temporarily suspended. Currently, the building houses the Special Office for Reconstruction, the Volunteer Services Center, various offices and departments of the Teramo city administration, and the COVID-19 vaccination center. The auditorium continues to be used for city council meetings.
